Conor Brooks '00 beats Miami, captures Ivy Pitcher of the Week

Big Green hurler Conor Brooks '00 was recognized as Ivy Pitcher of the Week for his stunning performance in Florida this spring break. Recording victories against Delaware, Lafayette, and Central Connecticut, Brooks led the staff with his 3-1 record and ranked highly in total innings pitched. "When Conor is pitching, it's a three game weekend for me, I don't have to worry about him finishing the game, he has the stamina and experience," said Head Coach Bob Whalen. Brooks also earned a save when the Big Green defeated the defending National Champion Miami Hurricanes.

They encompass the list of would-be no-names that emerged from the near-dustbin of college basketball to synergize at the absolute last moment and make a run in their slippers all the way to be Prom Queen at the biggest dance of all. To some, Cinderella may conjure up visions of Rollie Massimino's hair flying every which way and to others, Jim Valvano running frantically around the court desperately looking for someone, anyone, to embrace.

Cornell If the non-conference schedule is an accurate representation of how teams will fare when Ivy play starts on April 8, Cornell would be an early favorite to tear things up this spring.

Scopaz, Roda: scholar-athletes

It takes talent and hard work to play a varsity sport while attending an Ivy League institution. But it takes a lot more to do well. Last week, two such Dartmouth seniors were awarded for their excellence both on the field and in classrooms. The College Sports Information Directors of America named Lauren Scopaz '00 and Katie Roda '00 to the District 1 GTE Academic All America At-Large team last week. Scopaz is the field hockey team's all-time scoring leader in every offensive category.

Green head to N.Y. for two games

Coming off losses to the Ivy League's top two teams in Hanover, the Dartmouth men's basketball team (8-17, 4-8) will face the third- and last-place teams this weekend in New York State. Tomorrow night the Big Green will battle to stay out of the Ancient Eight cellar when they take on Cornell (10-15, 3-9). The Big Red, like the Green, were expected to finish near the top of the standings before the year began, but instead have struggled to win at all. Until winning twice at home last weekend, the Big Red had only garnered a single League victory.
