Quattrocchi earns Ivy pitcher award

Freshman hurler Christine Quanttrocchi went 4-0 last week, including a no-hitter against St. Anselm, to earn Ivy League Pitcher of the Week award.

She also recorded victories against St. Bonaventure, Manhattan and Colgate. The rookie has fanned a total of 24 batters last week and now leads the team with 61 strikeouts. Quanttrochi has a dazzling 1.24 earned-run-average as well.

Brown

On their trip to Georgia, the Bears split a doubleheader on Friday against Mercer, and lost two to Georgia State the next day. Brown now has a 5-10 record for the season.

In the first game against Mercer, Brown was only able to muster four hits as the home team went on a scoring run. The game was ended in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule, and Mercer took the 8-0 win.

However, the Bears came back in the second game to win 9-5. Mercer took an early 2-0 lead, but Brown took the next eight runs, and later put the icing on the cake with a RBI by freshman Erin Durlesser.

The next day, the Bears traveled to Georgia State to face the Panthers. In a doubleheader, Georgia State took both games, the first by a score of 8-7 and the second by a score of 9-1.

Brown faces Boston University today.

Columbia

Columbia attended Colgate's Red Raider tournament over the weekend.

On Friday, the team suffered two losses, one to St. Bonaventure with a score of 1-0 and one to Colgate, 5-1.

The Lions faced Manhattan and Buffalo for Saturday's games, and on Sunday they split the day with a 6-5 8-inning loss to Stony Brook and a 3-1 win against Dartmouth.

The squad, which does not officially begin Ivy play until next year, has a doubleheader on Thursday against LaSalle.

Cornell

The Big Red played two doubleheaders on the road this weekend, facing Fordham on Saturday and Wagner on Sunday. They won three out of the four games, putting their record at 15-4.

Against Fordham, they split the doubleheader with a win in the afternoon game and a loss in the night game. In the first game, They were tied 1-1 until the ninth inning, when Cornell senior Tracy Quinn knocked in the winning run. The second game was also close, but Fordham pulled out the win this time with an unearned run in the seventh inning to put the score at 3-2.

Cornell dominated both of Sunday's games against Wagner. In the first game, the Big Red came out strong, with three runs in the first inning. They went on to take the game, 8-2.

The second game was much of the same, as the Big Red scored eight runs in five innings. The game ended after these five innings due to the mercy rule.

Cornell, still on the road, faces Siena on Thursday.

Harvard

The Crimson traveled to Virginia over the weekend for the Virginia Tech Tournament. They came out of the tournament with two new wins and three new losses, putting their record at 5-16.

On Friday, Harvard was victorious in its game against Liberty, winning by a score of 4-3.

The Crimson then played two games on Saturday; the team lost to East Carolina 7-9 and then lost again, this time to Virginia Tech, 1-11.

Sunday saw Harvard split two games; they again lost to East Carolina, 5-6, and then faced Liberty again. They were again the victors against Liberty, with a 10-9 decision.

The Crimson will face Holy Cross this week.

Pennsylvania

The Quakers played two doubleheaders this weekend, facing Temple on Saturday and traveling to meet Army on Sunday. Their record now stands at 9-16-1.

Against Temple, the Quakers split the two games, winning the first 6-2 and dropping the second by a score of 4-2.

At West Point on Sunday, Penn was unable to muster a victory. The Knights took the first game by a margin of 4-1, holding the Quakers to three hits.

In the second game, Army was in control again, this time taking the game with a score of 7-1.

Penn will play Lehigh today.

Princeton

The Tigers split both of their doubleheaders this weekend, the first on Saturday against UMass and the second on Sunday against St. Peter's.

The even weekend brought their season record to 11-17.

UMass took the first of two games, 5-2, and was three outs away from a 3-2 victory when Princeton sophomore Kim Veenstra hit a base-clearing triple. The Tigers went on to take the game, 5-4.

Against St. Peter's, the Tigers gained a 1-0 shutout victory, with Veenstra tallying the only run of the game.

In the second game, however, St. Peter's managed to gain a 2-1 victory in the eighth inning.

Princeton opens its Ivy League season next Saturday in New Jersey against Brown.

Yale

Yale split its lone doubleheader on Sunday when the squad traveled to Fordham. The games brought the Bulldogs' record to 10-13-1 for the season.

In the first game against the Rams, Yale went scoreless as the host team took the 3-0 victory. However, not to be outdone, the Bulldogs answered back with a 3-0 victory of their own in the second game, scoring two runs in the second inning and one in the third.

Yale faced UConn this week, and will open its Ivy season on Saturday at Penn.
