Women's varsity eights wait on NCAAs

After battling their way to a third-place finish in the petite final this past weekend at the Eastern Sprints in Connecticut, the women's varsity eight's season hangs in limbo until this afternoon, when they will hear if their performance was enough to qualify them for next weekend's NCAA Championships. "The petite final was a really exciting race," varsity co-captain Anna McCall-Taylor '00 said.

I have a problem with the direction of the game of baseball. Although there are a variety of different things I feel the need to gripe about, there is one that I find truly irritating -- the home runs. As a young kid, I remember being constantly told by all of my coaches not to swing for the fences.

Men's golf to tee-off at NCAA regionals

The Dartmouth men's golf team will compete in the NCAA East Regional Championship on May 18-20. The Big Green are one of three Division 1 teams to earn a spot in the competition. Yale and Rhode Island will also play in the regionals, hosted by Temple University at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa. In addition to the East regional, the NCAA conducts two other tournaments in the Central and West regions.

It has become apparent to the baseball community that Major League Baseball needs to realign its divisions in order to produce more intradivision games and better September matchups among contenders, and to take advantage of natural regional rivalries. Although the home run frenzy of Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa has helped the game of baseball in terms of attendance and marketing, the MLB still does not attract the eyes of the American public like it once did.

Women's water polo participates in national tourney The Dartmouth women's water polo will be competing this weekend at the first ever women's club nationals at Tuscon, Ariz. The Big Green will represent the New England conference in the tournament, which starts today. The team faces Norte Dame and Arizona in the first round. Sailing team hosts New England Championships The Dartmouth sailing team will host the New England Championship this weekend on Lake Mascoma.

Harvard clinches Ivy with split vs. Green

The Crimson and the Big Green softball teams were both in must-win situations going into their doubleheader in Cambridge yesterday. Harvard needed just one win to clinch the 2000 Ivy League championship, while Dartmouth needed a sweep to remain in contention.
