Al-Nur Response

To the Editor: This letter, on behalf of the Al-Nur executive board, is in a response to the op-ed titled "Preaching Hatred at Dartmouth" by Ilya Feoktistov '06 (The Dartmouth, June 29) and a letter to the editor titled "Stunned and Incredulous" by Ann Abramowitz and Alan Abramowitz (The Dartmouth, July 1). It is written with the hope of resolving the tensions that have surfaced and, more importantly, to apologize for the offensive material on the Al-Nur website.

The persistence of terrorism in India and Pakistan, the Kashmir crisis and domestic issues like the caste system in India make it difficult to forget the extent to which religion is politicized in South Asia. India and Pakistan have gone to several wars since the British left the subcontinent in 1947, and although these wars have largely been wars over territory, the crux of the divide originated with the formation of the nation of Pakistan, whose raison d'etre was to provide a homeland for the Muslims of India.

W. soccer tames top-20 Huskies

The Dartmouth women's soccer team is on a high. For the second time in six days, the Big Green thwarted a nationally ranked team when they defeated University of Connecticut 4-2 at the rain-drenched Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn., on Wednesday. The win was sweeter because the game was the 12th time the Big Green had played the 18th-ranked Huskies, and it was their first ever victory. Dartmouth sophomore Devon Haskell started the rout when she blasted the ball into the net after UConn keeper Shanna Caldwell had made a fine save in the 25th minute.

Harvard women beat Yale soccer

Rhode Island 2, Brown 0 The Brown Bears lost their second consecutive game last Sunday when travelling Rhode Island handed them a 2-0 defeat. After 72 minutes of scoreless action, Erica Young, upon collecting a pass from Heather Kasperek, lofted the ball over Brown's goaltender Sarah Gevais and into the net.

Brown women's soccer stay on roll

Brown 3, Loyola 0 Brown continued its superb form on Sunday afternoon, destroying Loyola-Chicago by a margin of at Stevenson Field. Senior Raffaella Kalishman scored her first collegiate goal for the Bears with less than five minutes remaining in the first-half.
