NYT: Former PBS chair grew distressed after mentioned in lawsuit

|

Dave Bucci, a former psychological and brain sciences professor and department chair who died by suicide last October, grew “deeply distressed” after being mentioned several times in a class action sexual misconduct lawsuit filed against the College and fell into the depression he had been treated for years prior, according to a recent report in the New York Times.

Admissions director asserts College does not market unfairly

Dartmouth and other elite colleges and universities across the country hope to admit top students. But according to a Nov. 5 Wall Street Journal article, some of these institutions will market themselves to weaker applicants as part of the numbers game of acceptance rates in college admissions.

Dartmouth celebrates Veterans Day amid changes in support mechanisms

Last week, Dartmouth hosted a number of events in recognition of Veterans Day, including a birthday ball for the United States Marine Corps, a remembrance breakfast, a panel on the history of Dartmouth’s veterans, a formal Drill and Retreat ceremony and a presentation by Association of the U.S. Army CEO General Carter Ham. These celebrations come after changes to Dartmouth’s recruitment and support of veterans — namely, the discontinuation of the College’s partnership with the Posse Foundation.

Bill Weld returns for second event at Dartmouth

Last Wednesday, former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld, who is challenging President Donald Trump for the Republican Party’s 2020 presidential nomination, returned to Dartmouth for an event sponsored by the Rockefeller Center for Public Policy called “The Future of the American Presidency.”

Budget project to explore spending and revenue, Hanlon says

College President Phil Hanlon announced plans for a “Dartmouth Budget Project” on Nov. 4 at a meeting of the general faculty. The project, designed to take a deeper look into the College’s current spending and possible revenue opportunities, is intended to help prepare the College as it faces new costs.
