Tennis plays today for Ivy title

|

Ready, set, action. Action is exactly what the men's tennis team is ready for today as it prepares to take on the nationally ranked Harvard Crimson in a showdown that will leave the winner with the Ivy League Championship. Dartmouth, 6-1 in the EITA, is the definite underdog heading into today's match against the 7-0 Crimson, but this is nothing new for the Big Green, who for the past few years, have finished the season against competitive Harvard teams. Two years ago, the Big Green pulled off a stunning upset when they defeated the Crimson in a tight home match, giving both teams a piece of the title.

Baseball splits four with first-place Yale

|

The Dartmouth baseball team laid its best hand on the table against Ivy League and Red Rolfe division leader Yale this past weekend. For the most part, the team played virtually errorless ball, scattered the field with hits, and the young staff pitched like veterans. Yale, champions of the Ivies for three years running, matched the Big Green's best offer, resulting split of the four games between the division rivals. "We have no regrets.

Baseball faces twin twin-bill at Yale

A chance. That is what the youthful Dartmouth baseball team has earned this weekend, a chance to rip first place from the hands of powerhouse Yale on the Bulldog's own turf. It is a long shot, to say the least, but it is all the players can ask for. This weekend, the Dartmouth baseball team makes the long trek to New Haven for a four-game series against the leader of the Red Rolfe Division, Yale. All signs point towards a fourth consecutive title for the Bulldogs, who are 9-3 in the Ivies, three games ahead of second-place Dartmouth.

Men's lacrosse rebounds from weekend defeat, crushes Yale

|

Yesterday, for the first time since 1984, the men's lacrosse team defeated Yale , using a balanced scoring attack and stifling defense to take a 15-7 victory on the road. The win improved the 19th-ranked Big Green's record to 7-1 overall, 2-1 in the Ivy League. Yale fell to 5-6 on the year, 2-3 in the Ivies. Yale trailed the Big Green 5-1 early in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs would not lay down, rallying with three straight scores. Dartmouth returned the favor, putting up three quick goals of its own to take an 8-4 lead into halftime. Several penalties and substitution errors wiped out any chance of a Yale comback in the second half, and Dartmouth coasted to the 15-7 victory. Todd Smith '95 led the way for the Big Green, tallying four goals and an assist. Sophomore Scott Hapgood scored three goals and added one assist while sophomore Brian Merrit notched a goal and three assists. In all, nine Dartmouth players scored goals in the afternoon. Tom Zaccagnino led Yale with two goals and an assist.

Heavyweight crew victorious; women, lightweights defeated

The men's heavyweight crew team overcame the University of New Hampshire Sunday in a race on the Connecticut River, while the women's crew team and the men's lightweight team lost their respective weekend races. Every Dartmouth heavyweight boat beat its UNH counterpart, the varsity winning by a comfortable seven-second margin. Heavyweight Captain Mark Scott '95 said "I don't think anyone doubted we would win, but it is good to know we are where we were in years past." The first boat established an early lead over UNH, and gained more seats throughout the race, especially during a surge after the first 1,000 meters. "That is our most important piece," Scott said.

Princeton edges men's tennis 4-3

|

Saturday afternoon the men's tennis team looked to keep its momentum gained from last weekend's wins over Pennsylvania and Columbia but unfortunately came up one point short of doing so. In their first away trip since break, the Big Green could not overcome the new surroundings and fell to Princeton in a tight 4-3 match. "It was really windy outside," Captain Kurt Bruggeman '95 said.
