Track wins New England Championship

With the team huddled round to cheer and the meet tied at 85 senior pole vaulter Scott Shimooka came through and cleared 15'9", guaranteeing the points necessary for Dartmouth to defend its New England Championship crown and commencing a team celebration, a victory lap, and the dunking of Coach Barry Harwick. Shimooka's clearance was good for fifth place, bringing Dartmouth's point total to 87, two more than second place Brown.

Women's track finishes second at Heps

From 1,500 meters to 10,000 meters the Dartmouth women's track and field team swept every race, dominated the distance events, and received useful points from the field events, on the way to a surprising second place finish in the Heptagonal Championships at Navy last weekend. The finish is a stark improvement over the team's seventh place finish last term.

Track teams run strong at Penn Relays

The Penn Relays drew 46,000 spectators, national television coverage, Olympic-caliber athletes and teams from across America. Racing against the nation's best, selected Dartmouth athletes posted five top-five results, in three individual events and two relays. Maribel Sanchez '96 led the women's team, finishing fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of9:26.77, a personal best.
