Men's lacrosse falls to suny Stony Brook, 13-10

The "frozen tundra" of Memorial Field seems to have taken its toll on the men's lacrosse team these days, as the spark from their trip down South has suddenly turned cold. Despite moving the game to the snow-free fields of Keene State College in Keene, N.H., the Big Green fell to SUNY Stony Brook 13-10 last Saturday, dropping their record to 1-3 overall. Dartmouth led 2-1 after an otherwise slow first quarter.

Lightweight crews sweep Tufts heavies

Dartmouth's lightweight crews found the light through the dense fog along the Charles River this weekend as all four boats cruised to easy victories over the Tufts heavyweights. Fresh off their victories at the Augusta Invitational over the break, the first varsity won the 2000-meter race in 6:07, edging Tufts by 14 seconds, while the second boat clocked a 6:13 to beat the Jumbos by 17 seconds. "Considering we haven't been on the water all week, I think we rowed quite well this weekend," coxswain Stephanie Yu '97 said.

Baseball downs Babson in its East Coast opener

The baseball team will try to improve on their 4-6 record as they travel to Merrimack College for a non-conference bout tomorrow at 1 p.m. The game follows a 9-6 Big Green victory over Babson College on Wednesday and a western spring break series which brought the team to an early 3-6 record. In Wednesday's game, Dartmouth took an early 1-0 lead before exploding for four runs in the third inning to all but put away the Babson squad. Sophomore Mike Conway sent a shot up the middle for the spot on first base before co-Captain Andrew Spencer earned a walk to get men on first and second. Aaron Meyer '00 belted a double into the outfield to send Conway and Spencer trotting home.

Women's golf team places third twice in Bermuda

Unfazed by a five-month hiatus from competition, the women's golf team traveled to Bermuda over Spring Break to train and returned with a pair of third place finishes in tournament play. Last October, the women received a number of outstanding individual performances en route to ending their fall season with a strong eighth place finish in the ECAC Championships. Bermuda's warm temperatures and cloudless skies gave the linksters the opportunity to pick up their games almost where they left off in the fall, and the women took full advantage of the situation. Throughout the trip they played and practiced on three different courses, one of which, Mid-Ocean, is ranked among the top 100 courses in the world. "It was a fun course to play," Lauren Epstein '00 said.

Big Green scores 90-78 upset over Brown Bears

If this weekend were a movie, the women's basketball team would surely skip finals and just sit around watching it over and over again until the VCR blew out. Yup, this weekend's 90-78 upset over Brown (10-4) and the mind-boggling 63-48 comeback win over Yale (6-8) the next night would've really made for a great movie -- complete with some Oscar-worthy performances and a few rocks stars here and there. The opening scene against Brown was explosive as the Big Green's Bess Tortolani '98 drained an in-your-face triple to light up the scoreboard.
