Men's golf shows no Hurd is no problem

Though highs in the 80's and lows in the 70's may still be weeks away for most of us, the Dartmouth men's golf team posted such numbers this weekend, placing them fourth amongst the Yale Invitational's strong field of 22 schools from around the East Coast. Even without co-Captain Mackenzie Hurd '98, the golfers in green successfully overcame the traditional disadvantage of having no early-spring practice facility and navigated challenging winds in their first tournament of the spring to come up with their very respectable finish. "It was damn cold out there," Chris Welty '00 said.

Men's golf finishes second in Invitational

Collegiate competition returned to the rolling hills of the Hanover Country Club this weekend as the men's golf team opened its fall season with a strong second place finish out of the 13 team field at the Dartmouth Invitational. Dartmouth entered two five-man teams in this year's invite.

Men's golf takes second at Yale

Coach Bill Johnson's prediction that his men's golf team would "surprise a lot of teams in the spring," came true this weekend with a second place finish at this year's Yale Invitational. Second only to Yale, who used its home course advantage to its fullest, Dartmouth beat out four other Ivies, golf powerhouses Central Connecticut and UConn, as well as 10 other fine squads. Due to extremely demanding and, at times, virtually illegal pin positions, none of the 95 players in the field managed to break par, and only 14 managed to break 80. With a great effort, Jay Lavender '97 posted a 78.
