Women's basketball drops opening game to Hartford

Asafu Suzuki / The Dartmouth Staff It certainly wasn't expected to be a confidence booster for Dartmouth women's basketball team to open its season against the three-time reigning America East Champion, the Hartford Hawks, in the first round of the Big Green's first-ever preseason WNIT tournament. That the young Big Green squad lost 62-45 wasn't as surprising as the team turning the ball over 17 times and squandering 10 points on missed free throws in the game. But head coach Chris Wielgus remains optimistic.

X-country fails in bid for nationals

The season came to a close on Saturday for the Dartmouth men's and women's cross country teams. Both teams failed to qualify for nationals at the NCAA regional meet, held in the Bronx at Van Cortland Park. Ben True '08 will be the lone representative of the Big Green at nationals.



After throwing for almost 300 yards in a losing effort last week, Mike Fritz '07 will try to ignite a Big Green offense that has struggled early in games.

Big Green football seeking fast start in home finale

Emma Haberman / The Dartmouth Senior Staff If the Dartmouth football team hopes to notch its first home victory in its final opportunity Saturday afternoon against the Brown University Bears, the team will need to avoid its recent recipe for failure. The Big Green (1-7, 1-4 Ivy League) has demonstrated lately a penchant for falling behind early and making valiant comeback efforts that fall just short.

Women's hoopsters hope for repeat of magical 2005-06 season

Asafu Suzuki / The Dartmouth Staff The two-time defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth women's basketball team will make its first appearance of the 2006-07 season against the Hartford Hawks tonight in the Big Green's first-ever Preseason WNIT tournament. Dartmouth made quite a splash on the collegiate basketball scene after nearly upsetting the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, a women's basketball powerhouse, in the opening round of the 2006 NCAA tournament.

Figure skating to host National Championships The Dartmouth figure skating team can start off its season breathing easy. The team's officers received the news that their bid to host the 2007 Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championships had been accepted. The meet is held from April 13-15 and welcomes regional champions from all over the country. The United States Figure Skating Association's Director of Collegiate Skating gave the nod to the three-time defending national champions on Oct.
