Russian Literature Professor Lev Loseff was recently awarded a fellowship from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in order to complete his annotated bilingual edition of the works of poet Joseph Brodsky. Lesoff was one of the 182 artists, scientists and scholars to receive the prestigious award.
While other students such as those at Harvard University are already being counted in this year's U.S.
It all started as a small idea in the mind of Vice President Al Gore -- the Internet, that is. Okay, so perhaps that joke is getting old, but one thing that is clearly not getting old anytime soon is the Internet itself.
Recently, I visited someone in North Hall. Until then, I had no idea that North Hall existed. For all I know, it didn't exist until the very moment that it came into my view, and once I left it, it slipped back into oblivion. How long has North Hall been there?
So I saw Discount play at Bill's Bar on April 1, desperately scrambling to see them on their final tour before they part ways for good. Discount has been around for over six very productive years, since most of the band members were in junior high, and the stress of making good art, good poetry, and most of all good music finally came to a head.
87 percent voted that they agree with Assembly's recommendations
Having been stuck in the confines of rural New England for the majority of my twenty-one years, and being even more strictly bound within the Upper Valley's limits for nearly the past four years, I have come to three conclusions: 1) People need to have more sex; 2) People need to have more sex in public spaces; and 3) Some places on this campus are better than others for dropping the proverbial kids off at the proverbial pool. Increased sex on this campus would ameliorate gender relations at least a hundredfold.
After a season fraught with injuries to top stars, coaching controversies, and several violent on-ice incidents, it is time for the players to settle it all on the ice.
Well, here I am, off campus and living alone in my grandma's condo on a beach in Florida. Other than the fact that I'm having a great time lounging in the sand and basking in the sun, I've been faced with a few perplexing issues. For one, I'm a little concerned that I just plain don't exist anymore.
University of Vermont broke a 5-5 tie on the top of the ninth inning when Dan Ruane hit a deep double to center field and the Catamounts went on to beat the Big Green, 7-5. Dartmouth dropped its season record to 13-11, while Vermont improved to 15-8. After UVM took a 3-0 lead, Jason Dacosta '03 batted in two runs in the second inning and junior catcher Mike Levy reached home on three Vermont errors to tie the game. The game was tied again at five after five innings, and Dartmouth struggled to beat Vermon'ts relief pitcher Brian Robinson, who allowed only one hit. Freshman Brian Gattis started on the mound for the Green and he pitched five innings while allowing three earned runs. Relief pitcher Michael Brown '02 took over for Gattis in the sixth inning.
The Senior Executive Committee for the Class of 2000, which acts as the alumni relations liason between the class and the College for the next five years, has finalized the specific positions for its members. While the 20 member committee has been in place since February, it is only recently that the members received their appointments to explicit tasks. The executive board consists of President Kelly Bodio, Vice President Shannon Danzy, Treasurer Emily Anadu, Secretary Kelly Heaps, Alumni Council representative Olivia Carpenter, Head Agent Janelle Ruley, newsletter editor Eric Buchman and mini-reunion Head Chair Julie Kachniasz. Twelve of the committee members were elected by their classmates, the remaining eight were appointed by a College selection committee composed of Director of Student Activities Linda Kennedy, Dean of Student Life Holly Sateia, 2000 Class Dean Teoby Gomez and assistant director of Alumni Relations Stacy Wooley. "The importance of the head agent in the first five years after graduation is that the position will lay the groundwork for class participation.
I believe that the Student Life Initiative is fake. In all likelihood, it's just a hoax. There is no way anything will be done to the fraternities, because Dartmouth likes money, and old frat alums like to give theirs away.
The website features short films, reviving a long-forgotten genre
The Presidential elections have attracted attention to issues involving the American education system. As a result the phrases "school-choice," "vouchers," and "charter schools" have been openly debated as possible methods to holistically improve education and offer all students the opportunity to succeed. While the nation examines how to educate its children more fairly, The Dartmouth questioned how the national debate is reflected at the College in students' experiences. How diverse are the experiences of Dartmouth students?

Last night the Student Assembly took an important step toward securing the release of the official list of candidates for a number of student leadership positions -- including Assembly president and vice president -- which has been held up by controversy over D-plans. The Assembly passed a resolution whose sole purpose is to correct an inconsistency between the Election Planning and Advising Committee's requirements for students holding office and the Assembly constitution from which they were derived. The mistake in the EPAC's requirements -- which were supposed to exactly match those mandated by the Assembly constitution -- was realized when the names of three of the six people running for either the position of Assembly president or vice president were struck from the ballots for the upcoming Spring term elections. Unlike the Assembly constitution, the EPAC's rules stated that all students running for the position of Assembly president or vice president must be taking classes for the three terms during which they would hold office.
I hope you are all just as excited as I am for the coming Presidential election season. Actually, I hope you are more excited, or God save the Republic.
Dartmouth community members remember vividly the day last February when students gathered on the lawn of Psi Upsilon fraternity to protest the administration's pledge to revamp social life at the College. Campus leaders spoke passionately about the positive contributions Greek organizations make to student life, and a receptive audience -- many clad in pro-Greek attire -- cheered them on. But this enthusiasm has yet to translate itself into support for the anti-sweatshop movement that has swept university campuses across North America, a curious phenomenon for a student body where 75 percent of students participate in regular volunteer work.
Hey, did you hear about this? Apparently India and Pakistan have nuclear capabilities and are going to destroy the world.
