Women's hockey ices Boston College 5-2

The new millennium leg of the women's ice hockey team's schedule began in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday night against the Boston College Eagles. After falling 1-0 to Northeastern, the number one team in the nation, on New Year's Eve, Dartmouth rebounded beautifully as the Big Green handed Boston College a 5-2 loss on Wednesday night. Junior Kristina Guarino's second goal of the game at 7:47 of the second period proved to be the game winner when she put a shot past Boston College's Christy Nentwig off a feed from Correne Bredin '02. The win improves the Big Green to 8-5-0 overall (6-2-0 in the ECAC) while the Eagles fall to 2-10-0 (0-10-0 ECAC). Bredin led the way for Dartmouth, scoring a goal and assisting on three others, including the game winner.

Celebrating the Millennium

It's all David Letterman's fault. He started it. Who knows how greatly his Top Ten lists spawned the misery and ridiculousness that the world must endure with the recent list of the decade's, century's and millennium's best sports everythings? Faced with the inundation of these lists which serve best as fodder for barstool tirades, I would love to agree with the choices of the various selection committees.

M. hockey endures 0-4-2 stretch

In most cases, an 0-4-2 record over a six game stretch might be cause for some worries. For the Dartmouth Big Green, it brought relief. The team escaped the most trying part of its schedule with its pride intact, if not with any wins.

W. hockey loses three by a goal

While most Dartmouth students were home for the holidays by Dec. 10, the Dartmouth women's ice hockey team was looking down a tough stretch of non-conference games. The women's icers went on a road trip to Minnesota to play the nationally-ranked Golden Gophers twice, followed by a tune-up exhibition game against the United States National team and finishing up December with the Dartmouth Invitational Tournament. Minnesota 5, Dartmouth 4 Dartmouth entered Mariucci Arena holding the nation's sixth ranking to play the fourth-ranked Golden Gophers.

Team reflects on life after Knudsen

Three days after women's soccer head coach Kelly Blasius Knudsen '91 announced her resignation from the Big Green soccer team, the Athletic Department launched a search for her replacement as players continue to reflect on the impact her departure will have on future seasons. Director of Athetics Dick Jaeger said that his office has already formed a search committee made up of faculty and coaches, as well as a sub-committee of players.

Student luxury box returns to Green hoops

Students can once again cheer on the Big Green basketball teams from the student luxury box as the Athletic Department announced that it will make the promotion available for all men's and women's home games this season. The opportunity is free to any and all groups on campus as the box will hold up to 30 people, with the first 20 receiving free t-shirts.

Green blank Red Raiders, 3-0

Senior defenseman Christine Castro '00 made the play of her life when the team needed her the most. Castro turned aside Colgate's early attack when their corner kick landed on the far side where a Red Raider was waiting to put the ball in the net. But the co-Captain stood firm, blocking the first shot and watching the second try which flew just over the crossbar. "It was a great play," Colgate head coach Kathy Brawn said.

November Madness

Duke was unquestionably the finest team in college basketball last year -- until they played Connecticut for the national title. During the off-season the Blue Devils lost four players to the first round of the NBA draft, including Player of the Year Elton Brand, rendering themselves mortal for the 1999-2000 NCAA basketball season.
