The Dartmouth College women's squash team remained undefeated with a 3-0 record after defeating Williams College on the road by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday night.
However, Dartmouth's men's team fell to Williams, 8-1. The loss drops the men to 2-2 on the season.
The women's team was led by Abigail Drachman-Jones '03 and Beth Vadasdi '03, who each earned five game matches.
The number one player for Dartmouth, Sarah West '02, was defeated in a three game match.
The Dartmouth women had won its previous two matches, against Williams and Smith, with shutouts.
"I think the match yesterday was a positive start to the regular season," captain Carolyn Levine '00 said. "We needed a strong win yesterday to get us psyched up for a huge match against Cornell this weekend."
On the men's side, captain Beau River '00 was the squad's only winner, defeating Williams' Shafier Libby, 3-0 (15-2, 17-16, 15-8).
"Williams didn't lose any players last year, they have five seniors on the team, and they had a pretty good recruiting year," said James Judah '02, the number nine player on the team. "They're just plain tough to stop."
River, who plays in the number one position for the men, served as an alternate this past summer for the U.S. Men's National Team that competed in the Pan Am Games.
These were the first team matches for the men's and women's teams since November. The Dartmouth Snowflake Tournament, a tournament held this past weekend for individual players of both amateur and professional status, was the only scheduled squash event since Thanksgiving.
Both the men's and women's teams have their next matches at home against Cornell on Saturday. The men start their match at 10 a.m., and the women begin at noon.
"These next couple of days we are going to be working extra hard to prepare ourselves for the Cornell match," Levine said. "We lost to them during Ivy scrimmages, but every member on our team knows that we can all win this weekend. It would be great to start the Ivy season with a win over such a competitive team."
