Baseball outslugs Quinnipiac

Jeannie Post / The Dartmouth Staff Tommy Myette '06 drove in three runs on two hits and winning pitcher Josh Faiola '06 struck out three as the Dartmouth men's baseball team returned to its familiar coastal turf on Wednesday and capitalized on defensive miscues to win a eight-inning 13-11 slugfest against Quinnipiac. The contest in Hamden, Conn., called short due to darkness, was the first for the Big Green following a 2-7 spring-break campaign in California and Washington from March 16-26, with both victories coming against nationally ranked opponents. Against Quinnipiac, the Big Green men found themselves down early in the first inning.

Ski team captures third place in NCAA Championships

Jennifer Wang / The Dartmouth Staff The Dartmouth ski team pulled off its best performances of the season to finish third in the country at the NCAA Skiing Championships held in Steamboat Springs, Colo., from March 8 to 11. The third-place team finish is the highest for the Big Green since 1982, when the men's and women's championships were combined. With five individual All Americans and a Slalom Champion, Dartmouth was able to finish well ahead of archrivals the University of Vermont and Middlebury, which placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

Harvard defeats men's hockey in ECACHL semifinals

WEB UPDATE, March 23, 7:00 a.m. Dartmouth's men's hockey team saw its dreams of an NCAA tournament berth and an ECACHL postseason title come to an end last Friday when Harvard crushed the team 10-1. The Big Green had previously split their regular season encounters with the Crimson, losing in Cambridge and then blotting them out at Thompson Arena. During Friday's ECACHL semifinals match against Harvard, Mike Devine '08 allowed seven goals on twenty-four shots before he was pulled after the second period for freshman goalie Daniel Goulding '09, who let three pucks past the crease on eleven shots.

Big Green softball drops three of four at Buzz Classic

JENNIE POST/The Dartmouth Staff Dartmouth softball started its season going 1-3 in Georgia Tech's inaugural Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Ga., this past weekend. The team split its games on Friday, losing to Eastern Michigan 4-3 in extra innings and defeating Winthrop 13-5. The first game, the loss to Eastern Michigan, was the only close game of the weekend.

Player spotlight: Ikechi Ogbonna

Courtesy of Dartmouth Athletics Ikechi Ogbonna '06 is best summed up by his performance at the Indoor Track and Field Heptagonal (All-Ivy) Championships this year. Ogbonna, ranked second in the Ivies in the 60-meter hurdles, was soon to compete in the finals.
