Volleyball defeats University of Maine in straight games

Jennie Post / The Dartmouth Staff In a show of resilience, the Dartmouth women's volleyball team (4-4, 0-1) downed the University of Maine (2-9) in three tough games on Saturday. On the heels of a four-game Friday night loss to Harvard, Dartmouth jumped out to an impressive start against the Black Bears and held on for the victory, sweeping Maine, 30-18, 30-25, 30-27. After a decidedly dominant performance by the Big Green in the first game, Maine bounced back in the second game to take an early lead that held for most of the game.

Track and field teams honored for academic achievements

/ The Dartmouth The Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams, which finished fifth and sixth in the 2006 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championships, stand among the nation's top-twenty Division 1 schools in academics, based on a ranking by the U.S.

The Dartmouth heavyweight freshman eight finished second in the third level final and 14th overall at Eastern Sprints Sunday in Worcester, Mass.

Men's lightweight rowers finish sixth at Eastern Sprints

Kawakahi Amina / The Dartmouth Staff The men's heavyweight and lightweight crew seasons culminated Sunday at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Despite tough competition, the lightweight team managed to get three of four teams into the grand finals -- a feat that Dartmouth lightweight coach Steve Perry said the team has not accomplished in several years.

The men's heavyweight rowing team was swept by Syracuse Saturday in the annual Packard Cup the team hosted.

Women's rowers cruise to best Eastern Sprints finish since 1998

Kawakahi Amina / The Dartmouth Staff In an up-and-down weekend for Dartmouth rowing teams, women's crew had its best performance at the Eastern Sprints since 1998, while the men's heavyweight squad suffered a tough defeat on its home waters to Syracuse in the Packard Cup. Against some of the nation's best teams in Camden, N.J., the women's rowing team qualified three boats for the grand finals of the Sprints. The women's team placed sixth in their first varsity race.
