Donaghy guilty of gambling

Louis Lanzano / Associated Press NEW YORK -- How much Tim Donaghy profited from his betting scheme, and how far he went to do so, still is not known. This much is certain: Donaghy wagered on games he officiated, and he did it longer than previously thought. The disgraced former referee started betting on NBA games in 2003, long before he began tipping off high-stakes gamblers with inside information and recommending which teams to bet on ---- with a reward of $5,000 if his picks hit. The stunning allegations emerged Wednesday as Donaghy pleaded guilty to two felony charges in a scandal that rocked the league and tarnished the integrity of the sport. "By having this nonpublic information, I was in a unique position to predict the outcome of NBA games," Donaghy, standing ramrod-straight with his hands clasped in front of him, told the judge in a Brooklyn courtroom. Donaghy, who was released on $250,000 bond, faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov.

Dartmouth tennis hosts summer invitational tourney

As is typical of the summer, Dartmouth has hosted few athletic competitions recently, but from July 14-17, collegiate tennis players from across the country descended upon Hanover to compete in the Dartmouth Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Tournament. With no college tennis teams currently in season, players competed individually and not for their respective schools.

Fitness center obeys compliance in hiring athletes

College is expensive. From room and board and unbelievable textbook prices to an extensive wardrobe of Big Green gear and multiple late-night delivery charges from EBAs, the dollars can start adding up for any Dartmouth student. In order to help alleviate some of these financial woes, many students look for jobs during the summer months, with students on campus during sophomore summer often turning to the College itself as an employer. But for the student-athletes participating in Dartmouth's varsity sports teams, the road to summer employment is paved a little differently than it is for the non-student-athlete. The College itself does not have any special protocol for on-campus employers when it comes to hiring student-athletes.

'09 swimmers maintain momentum during summer term

While most Dartmouth sophomores are spending their summer alternating between classes, trips to the river and hanging out on the green, the members of the men's swim team are waking up early and training to improve upon last year's record (2-10, 0-8 EISL). They are readying themselves for a difficult and strenuous winter season where daily practices will be even more demanding and exhausting than they have been in the past.
