Carnivalesque

|

I don't usually write things that are important or even relevant, but this time I thought I should write about something that touches all of our hearts.

Opinion

Freshman Fifteen Fears

|

I feel as if I am less worthy a human being than those with whom my articles have graced the pages of America's Oldest College Newspaper.

Opinion

A Major Pain

|

Let me start off by saying that yeah, there may be some of you out there who are confident in your choice of major.

Opinion

Hell on Big Metal Wheels

|

If you think children are decent human beings, then you haven't ridden Amtrak lately. At the end of winter break, in my naivet (literal translation: "ratty clothing that I slept in"), I figured there had to be a way I could travel from New York to White River Junction without: a) Hearing blood-curdling screams. b) Being bitten. c) Being pooped on. So my main objective was, obviously, to avoid children.

The Well's Run Dry

|

As a columnist, I have it pretty easy. I don't ever have to go to meetings, I don't ever have to interview people, and I don't even have to worry too much about being "factually accurate." Every two weeks, I just rehash the same pro-Greek anti-administration column I've used for the past year now and then e-mail it into my editor.

Opinion

My Friend Tipper

|

So I'm pretty sure that Tipper Gore and I are going to end up best friends. I mean, as soon as she realizes that it's possible; yeah, we'll definitely be best friends. It's not like I'm totally insane in my dream for a really cool, famous friend in the world.

Opinion

Continuing Education

|

If there were one motto for all liberal arts colleges, it might be, "we train students how to think." Colleges such as Dartmouth, are very proud of the fact that they are not vocational schools -- so much so, that sometimes this pride clouds their judgment. Yesterday, yet another review board began meeting to discuss the future of Dartmouth's education department and to decide whether it should continue to exist at the College.

Opinion

Apathy -- or Whatever

|

I was going to write my column regarding something that's been on my mind ever since the end of last term, but then all this crazy SLI stuff got in the way and I had no choice but to get sucked into the black hole of student opinion that it represented and add my voice to the chorus.

Opinion

Spammy

|

I'm sitting here writing my FSP application for next spring and I cannot concentrate. I'm drawn to the can of SPAM on my windowsill and it reminds me of everything that's happened in the past few weeks.

Opinion

Commercial Interest

|

No longer is the televised Superbowl the greatest American sporting event of the year, or even a more broadly defined celebration of athleticism and overpaid football heroes.

Opinion

No Longer Inevitable

|

In a speech following his loss to Senator John McCain, George W. Bush, referred to the N.H. primary as traditionally "a bump in the road for the front-runner." That could be the understatement of the campaign season.

Here Today, Gone in March

|

I've never seen one of these guys show up to their own event before ten o'clock," the baffled correspondent from a national news organization told me last night.

Opinion

Batman Beware

|

If you are the type of person who has been waiting your entire life to see a 300-pound schizophrenic man from Chicago break into the rock music scene, how sad is that? In unrelated news, a 300-pound schizophrenic man from Chicago has -- this is an actual fact -- broken into the rock music scene and let me be the first to say, I have been waiting my whole life for this. Now, some obvious questions arise.

Opinion

Save Our Education

|

The Education department is once again under attack. Whatever arguments may be used to dismantle the department, the issue ultimately boils down to one prejudice held by many on this campus, including members of the administration: teaching is not a worthy application of a Dartmouth education. Continually sitting on the brink of elimination, the department will be subjected to yet another review, begining this week.

Opinion

Bradley and Wilson

|

Bill Bradley has taken New Hampshire by storm, using the New Hampshire electorate's infatuation with the "outsider" candidate to his advantage.

Opinion

Working Women

|

One of the truths held by traditional conservatives is that men and women are different, very different.

Opinion

Trustee Initiative

|

To the Editor: I downloaded the report and read it over the weekend. Frankly I was appalled (and I was NOT a member of a fraternity.) It is an unbelievably shoddy piece of work.
