To the Editor: To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "well Joe, there you go again." In the winter of 2006, Joe Asch '79 wrote an op-ed for The Dartmouth calling for College President James Wright's resignation ("Wright Must Be Replaced," March 1, 2006). Clearly that screed gained no traction among the trustees and alumni of Dartmouth, so now Asch tries again ("Time for Wright to Step Down," Sept.

'Promises' mesmerizes with dark and dirty beauty

There are some great moments in David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises," but you have to wade through an awful lot of carnage to get to them. The film offers a grim, grisly trip through the London underworld, in which there seem to be only two states of existence: violence, and the threat of violence.

Men's hockey ranks highly in coaches' and media polls

The Dartmouth men's hockey team has received a pair of top-10 national preseason rankings. The Big Green was picked to finish seventh by the coaches of the ECAC Hockey League and sixth by the media at the preseason media day held Monday. The top four spots were identical in both polls, with last year's regular season runner-up Clarkson first, last year's regular season champion St.

College to forge new partnership with NASA

Dartmouth and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory will team up on a wide range of space research projects that will increase funding and internships available for professors and students interested in space exploration. "Developing a strategic partnership with one of the country's leading laboratories is exciting," Martin Wybourne, the vice-provost for research, said in a Dartmouth press release.

Orientation week goes off without a hitch

Jessica Griffen / The Dartmouth Staff The 1,116 matriculating freshmen enjoyed barbecues, bumper cars and bagel breakfasts during orientation, an eight-day series of events that first-year dean Gail Zimmerman termed a success. Zimmerman said that initial feedback indicates that first-year orientation was well-received, even in the face of slight logistical setbacks.
