The men's basketball team continued its skid with a 71-60 loss to Maine last night at Leede Arena.
Betsy Gilmore '94 drained two free throws with seven seconds remaining to give the women's basketball team a 62-60 victory on the road at Siena monday night. With a minute and a half to play and Dartmouth leading 59-56, Kira Lawrence '96 fouled Jenn Najdek. Najdek could not convert in the clutch, missing the front end of a one-and one.
Jen Pariseau '97 will appear this morning on ABC's "Good Morning America." Pariseau, who plays on the Dartmouth basketball team, will be featured along with author Madeleine Blais in a segment about Blais's book, "In These Girls, Hope is a Muscle." Blaiswrote the book about Pariseau's high school basketball team in Amherst, Mass.
Big Green hope to bounce back from two consecutive losses
With the weather finally cooperating, the Dartmouth ski team is on its way to a fabulous season. Last weekend, the men's cross-country team won the Johnson State College Carnival and the women's team came in fifth.
The women's hockey team thrashed McGill Saturday, coming away with a 12-2 win behind a five-goal effort from center Sarah Howald '96.. Historically McGill has not fared well against Dartmouth.
Senior Kristin Cobb's gallant four-lap chase of a University of Massachusetts runner came up two seconds short, and Dartmouth finished second by one point in the Tri-State Challenge, held Saturday at Leverone Field House. The final score was the Massachusetts 50, Dartmouth 49, University of Vermont 43 and University of New Hampshire 10. Cobb, anchoring the 4 x 800 meter relay team, received the baton 20 meters behind the UMass anchor and steadily closed the gap before running out of time. The final event highlighted a competitive and spirited meet.
Losses leave playoff chances in doubt
The Dartmouth women's swimming team faced the Ivy League's best team Saturday in an effort to win their record eighth meet this season. The two team's established eight new pool records but the Big Green fell 203-97 losing only their second meet of the season and bringing their record to 7-2, 4-2 in the Ivies. The 200 medley relay team of Cory Murphy '95, Andrea Hill '97, Karyn Bysshe '96 and Deb Whitney '96 opened the meet.

For the second time in the past week, the Dartmouth women's basketball team hit the road to play a highly-ranked team. Last weekend the team flew to Virginia to play Old Dominion University, and Wednesday night it took to the road to play the University of Massachusetts, losing 78-55. Against UMass, Dartmouth held its own throughout the first half, shooting 12-30 from the floor.

The women's hockey team crushed Middlebury on its own ice yesterday afternoon, arriving back in Hanover with a 5-1 win over the Panthers.
The men's swim team lost another tight meet this weekend to Columbia, dropping its record to 1-7-1, 0-4-1 in the E.I.S.L. The season has been a difficult one for Dartmouth, as the team has lost numerous times in close events. A first place finish is worth five points more than a second place finish, creating a 10 point swing every time Dartmouth loses a close event. Once again, the Big Green came up on the short end of the close events and found themselves with a loss in a hard fought meet. "It is fun being on this year's team because the meets are exciting," Grier Laughlin '96 said.
A weakened Dartmouth unit traveled to Columbia this weekend. Beset by injury and illness, the meet did not promise to be one of the Big Green's strongest performances. But the team overcame adversity and earned a 167.5-127.5 victory, raising their record to 6-1, 4-1 in the Ivy League. "I think the win this weekend says a lot about the mental strength and emotional pride of our team.
The members of the men's squash team thought this was the year they would beat the Brown Bears. But the Bears had different ideas, as they roared into Hanover yesterday afternoon and left with a 6-3 victory. "We were hoping to win.
