Kristin Cobb '95 and Stacey Briere '97 led the Dartmouth women's track team to a strong performance at last weekend's Sun Devil Invitational.
The meet culminated a week of training in Arizona for both the men's and women's team.
The teams hope forto follow their strong indoor campaigns with a successful outdoor season.
Cobb won the 10,000 meters in 35:46.87 minutes. Coach Barry Harwick called the performance " a very fast time." Cobb's time qualifies her for the ECACs and is close to the provisional NCAA qualification time.
Briere won the hammer throw with a distance of 128'8". Joining her in the list of strong field event performances was Amy Winchester '96 who came in second in the discuss and third in the shot put.
The men's team also performed well at the Sun Devil Invitational. Harwick pointed to a number of "notable performances," led by Adam Nelson '97 in the shot put.
Nelson finished third with a throw of 57' 5", far enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Harwick called it a "great throw" for this early in season.
Pole vaulter Scott Shimooka '95 continued his strong indoor season, vaulting 15'7".
Dartmouth's legion of distance runners continued their yearlong strong performances in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters. In the 5,000 meters Jack Dwyer '96 placed third finishing in 14.47.06.
In the 10,000 Dartmouth took second, third and fourth place as seniors Sam Wilbur, Aaron Bouplon and Kai Richter paraded across the finish line. Wilbur finished second in a time of 30.06.01 after running with eventual winner Bill Farley for the first four to four and a half miles.
Farley was one of a number of post-collegiate runners who competed in the invitational meet. The Sun Devil Invitational drew representatives from more than 20 different schools, many from the West.
