Women's swimming outpaces Northeastern

|

The women's swim team went into the weekend looking to improve on its 2-2 record. After falling to Harvard at the end of last term, the team spent Christmas break in Fort Lauderdale, gearing up for the winter season. The Big Green was looking to return to its winning ways before facing their next Ivy League opponent, Pennsylvania, this weekend.

Men's hoops poised for Harvard

The men's basketball team entered the 1996-97 season with high expectations and so far it has not disappointed as the Big Green have jumped out to an impressive 9-2 (1-0 Ivy) record. For the seniors on this Big Green squad the smell of such victory is particularly sweet, for it was the 1997 class three years ago that experienced the slow 1-12 start their freshman year. "We are just really excited about where we are at," Captain Sea Lonergan '97 said.

Men's hockey splits against Ivy teams

After going 4-1 over the break, and splitting their weekend stand at Thompson with a 6-4 victory over Brown and a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to Harvard, the Big Green men's hockey team stands at 8-5.

Scopaz '00 excels in field hockey

|

With her quick knack for putting the ball into the goal during 18 Big Green games, field hockey rookie Lauren Scopaz '00 has proved to be Dartmouth's phenom of the season. Scopaz, who is The Dartmouth's rookie of the fall, finished off the fall season with 12 goals and four assists for a total of 28 points overall.

Women's hoops wins two

When women's basketball coach Chris Wielgus went recruiting this past off-season, she went looking for height, and she got with two six-foot centers, but it was the shortest recruit of them all, Courtney Banghart, standing at 5'6" who led the Green over Army on Sunday. Coming off the bench, Banghart's 15 points in her 16 minutes of court time led the Big Green to a 69-48 win over the Knights. If the score didn't convey the total domination that was exhibited by the Big Green, perhaps one simple statistic will do the job.

The Big Green used "40 minutes of relentlessness" to sweep Patriot League opponents Colgate and Lafayette in their opening two games of the season over the weekend.

Aljancic '97 leads Big Green to success

Reflecting on the greatest season in Big Green history, quarterback Jon Aljancic '97 can't help but to remember the words of the preseason college football previews. "Every article I read said that Dartmouth's chances to win an Ivy League title hinge on Aljancic getting the job done at quarterback." the 6'1", 185 pound Louisville, native said. Mission accomplished.

It's pretty easy for a hockey team to slip and slide a bit at the start of the season. After all, they're playing on some very slick stuff out there, right? With pads on shoulders, helmets on heads, and sticks in hand, the women's hockey team opened its season this past weekend with a pair of hefty road losses to Brown and Providence.

The Big Green open their quest for their first Ivy League championship since 1959 when they host Colgate and their star center Adonal Foyle at Leede Arena on Friday night. Dartmouth, which finished last year with an overall record of 16-10, will be looking to improve on its third place Ivy League finish a year ago.
