Men's squash ties school win record

The men's squash team hit the road this weekend on a three match tour which pitted them against Princeton, Penn and Navy. And once again they gained ground as they returned home with a 2-1 record, posting their tenth win of the season -- thus tying the College record for most wins in a season.

The weekend began with a tough battle against Princeton. The Big Green fell fast and hard as they dropped all of their matches to the third-ranked Tigers.

However, that was Saturday and the team still had two matches to go.

Penn was their next challenger. Things started off a little shaky as co-Captain Russell Echlov '97 and Ross Hallock '97 both lost their matches 1-3. But characteristic of the team's strength, the Big Green posted a latter-half rally to win six out of the remaining seven matches.

Co-Captain Jon Gabel '98 played a particularly strong match at the three spot. He took Juan Dominguez of Penn to five sets and pulled off the win, 15-12, 10-15, 15-12, 10-15, 15-10.

In round two of the Sunday competition, Navy could do little to fight the Big Green's squash court dominance. With their top player, Beau River '00, on the bench, the Big Green still managed to claim a 7-2 victory.

Now ranked sixth in the nation, Dartmouth currently boasts a 10-3 overall record, 4-1 in the Ivies.
