Over the Weekend

Skiing:Dartmouth fell short of the ultimate steal in Eastern collegiate ski racing this weekend, as they challenged the University of Vermont on UVM's home turf and had to settle for second. Still, the weekend left the teams comfortably ahead of all other competition and content to have given the Catamounts a good scare, beating them in two events and leaving the tiniest of margins in others.

Squash:Both the men's and women's squash teams fell to Princeton on Saturday. The men fell 9-0 to the No. 3 ranked Tigers while the women lost 8-1.

On Sunday the women dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Penn, while the men (10-3) matched the school record for wins in a season by defeating Pennsylvania (6-3) and Navy (7-2).

Swimming: The Black Knights from West Point pulled off a clean sweep over the Big Green swim teams this weekend, beating the men 172.5-125.5 and the women by a score of 160-140.

Track: The Big Green dominated Vermont this weekend in Leverone Field House as senior Adam Nelson shattered the school record in the shot put to lead Dartmouth 88.5-41.5 over the Catamounts. Nelson put of 58-8 met the NCAA qualifying standard.

Men's Volleyball: The men's volleyball team opened their 1997 campaign with a third place finish at the NECV Tournament at MIT this weekend. The squad outlasted a field of 30 visiting collegiate teams.
