Men's lax downs Holy Cross at Memorial Field

|

Zach Ingbretsen / The Dartmouth Staff Dartmouth's men's lacrosse team had an impressive offensive performance against Holy Cross in Hanover this Tuesday, routing the Crusaders, 21-12. The win marks Dartmouth's 27th straight victory over Holy Cross. Despite losing the last four games, the Crusaders (3-5, 0-4 Patriot League) have had an impressive season thus far, knocking off Yale in early season play.

Tennis squads post mixed results in pre-Ivy tune-up matches

|

The men's and women's tennis teams travelled to opposite coasts this spring break to pick up some match-speed practice in preparation for the upcoming Ivy League season. The women's tennis team lost just one of five matches in a week-long trip to Florida, while the men's team lost three matches and snagged one close win over Loyola Marymount University in California. The Big Green men (6-7, 0-0 Ivy) matched up against Utah on March 16, falling 2-5.

Track and field trains, competes in Arizona for spring break

|

Dartmouth's men and women's track and field teams escaped the mud and snow of Hanover this spring break, traveling to Scottsdale, Arizona to take advantage of the warmer climate before the spring season begins this weekend. In Arizona, the squads had the opportunity to gauge their progress when they each competed in the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State University on March 21-22. The meet was not scored and will not count toward the Big Green's overall meet record. The Arizona State Sun Devils, who compete in the Pacific 10 conference, are the newly crowned men and women's indoor track and field champions.

Zach Ingbretsen / The Dartmouth Staff As Winter term winds down it appears as though all Dartmouth students are consumed solely with studying for final exams, late night term paper writing marathons and trying to catch an occasional hour or two of sleep.

The Glove

A little over a month ago, I wrote a column urging restraint in hoping the 7-8 Dartmouth men's basketball team would break out and become an Ivy League power. At the time, the Big Green was 1-1 in conference play, and The Dartmouth stated that men's basketball "has its eye on greater things, more importantly an Ivy League Championship and its first NCAA berth since 1959." Since that time, Dartmouth men's basketball has gone 2-8 in the conference (leaving them 9-16 overall), with two of the team's recent losses decided by four points or less and another two ending with just a 10 points margin.

Baseball gives Navy one-two punch

Nat Smith / The Dartmouth Staff Dartmouth's baseball team started its season on a strong note, winning two of three games against Navy in Annapolis, Md., this past weekend. The team split a doubleheader on Saturday, opening its season with a two-hit, eight-strikeout shutout by co-captain Russell Young '08.

Men's squash praises captain Adam King '08

The crowd of fans at Dartmouth men's squash team's last home match was large, despite an early start time and the fact that squash is not traditionally a spectator sport. It was not immediatly clear why so many people came out to watch the squash matches at 11 a.m.

Men's Hockey

The Dartmouth men's hockey team suffered a lopsided loss at the hands of one of its fiercest rivals, but rebounded to get a win in its last home game, giving the Big Green some momentum heading into the Eastern College Athletic Conference hockey league playoffs.

Women's Hockey

The Big Green women's hockey swept Colgate in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference's postseason hockey tournament with a 4-3 victory on Friday, followed by a 4-2 win on Saturday. Dartmouth (18-7-6, 15-4-5 ECAC), ranked third in the ECAC, came into the series undefeated for the month of February. Fresh off of a 4-1 victory over Colgate (12-17-5, 9-11-4 ECAC) in the regular season finale, the Big Green was primed to ride this momentum through the first round of playoffs. On Friday, Larissa Roche '11 scored the first goal of the night early into the first period. The Raiders quickly responded, beginning an intense fight for the lead that persisted until the game's final minute. Dartmouth scored again before the end of the first period on a goal by Sarah Parsons '10 but was answered by a Colgate goal a minute into the second. Both teams increased the level of competition in the second period, recognizing that a win would not be easy for either squad. "It's playoff time, so there is always a struggle to stay ahead," Sarah Newnam '09 said.

Men's hoops goes 1-1 on weekend as Cornell wins Ivies

Sophie Novack / The Dartmouth Staff This season Dartmouth has seen three different versions of the Big Green men's basketball team: one that cannot beat anybody, one that can play with anybody but cannot pull out the close win, and one that can beat any conference team at home or on the road.
