Students birl, saw and canoe at 63rd annual Woodsmen's Weekend

Under a strong spring sun, wood chips flew and saw dust swirled about as Dartmouth hosted the 63rd annual Woodsmen's Weekend competition this past weekend. Drawing 27 teams and about 200 competitors, the two-day event featured competitions in various woodsmen's events, including axe throwing, fire building, canoeing, chain throwing, block chopping and crosscut sawing. The two-day event was split between venues.

The Big Green sailing team competed in four separate regattas over the weekend, winning one overall and placing in the top 10 in two others.

Despite rough waters, sailors post solid weekend finishes

The Dartmouth The Dartmouth sailing team had a strong showing this weekend, as 21 Big Green sailors competed in four separate regattas. The Big Green raced to a fourth-place finish in the Brad Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy regatta, while at the Ferrarone Team Race Intersectional, Dartmouth faced stiff competition and difficult conditions, emerging with a seventh-place finish. Dartmouth sailors also posted a 12th-place finish at the Central Series Three regatta.

Rensselaer, Union fall to women's ice hockey

The No. 9 Dartmouth women's hockey team enjoyed two big wins this weekend, defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 8-4 on Friday night and then beating Union College 4-2 Saturday. The two ECAC hockey conference wins should ensure that the Big Green remains in good position for the postseason. Amanda Trunzo '11 scored a career-high four goals Friday night against RPI.
