Cross country teams both take fourth place at New Englands

The Dartmouth men's and women's cross country teams both finished fourth at the New England championships on Saturday in Boston's Franklin Park. The Big Green women raced against a field of 45 teams from all over New England. Boston College won the race convincingly, finishing with a total of 38 points.

Henderson '09 leads men's soccer past Bulldogs

On a beautiful fall afternoon in Hanover, the Dartmouth men's soccer team sent the crowd home happy with a 1-0 conference win over Yale on Saturday. Dartmouth co-captain Craig Henderson '09 delivered the game-winning tally, his fourth goal of the season.

Dartmouth rebounded from a loss to league-leader Yale on Friday night with an impressive 3-1 victory over Brown Saturday in Providence, R.I.

Volleyball falls to Yale, beats Brown in weekend action

Zach Ingbretsen / The Dartmouth Staff Powered by a resurgent defense and healthy roster, the Dartmouth women's volleyball team rose to the challenge against two Ivy contenders this weekend, finishing its road trip with a strong win over Brown on Saturday after a hard-fought loss to Yale University on Friday evening. With the split, Dartmouth (5-9, 1-3 Ivy) is tied for sixth in the Ivy League standings with Brown University (9-7, 1-3 Ivy). Yale (10-3, 4-0 Ivy) holds the top spot in the conference after the weekend's action. After falling to Harvard University in straight sets last Friday, the Big Green looked to reassert its presence in the Ivies, facing its league rivals with a full lineup for the first time in the season. Morgan Covington '10, who dislocated her left thumb during the Dartmouth Invitational two weeks ago, came off the injury list after missing three games. "We've just been waiting to click as a team," Amber Bryant '12 said.

Women's soccer bounces back from Princeton loss, beats Albany

Dartmouth women's soccer bounced back from last week's disappointing loss to Princeton by crushing America East opponent University of Albany, 5-0, on Tuesday night in Hanover. The Big Green (5-4-1, 0-2 Ivy) scored five goals off of 23 shots, while holding the Great Danes (3-12) to only four shots in 90 minutes of play.

Karr's Chronicles: Club Dominance

Not many people at Dartmouth realize that we have an athletic program that is so dominant that it is out-scoring its opponents by nearly 3.5 to 1 -- a program that won a national championship as recently as 1997 and looks poised to compete for another one this year.

Favorable practicing conditions at Lake Mascoma helped Dartmouth women's sailing prepare for a second-place finish overall at the Regis Bowl.

Women shine in weekend sailing

Phil Woram / The Dartmouth Staff The Dartmouth sailing team clinched second-place finishes Saturday at the women's Regis Bowl hosted by Boston University and the Southern Series Three hosted by Yale University, while finishing 12th out of 27 teams at the Smith Trophy Race hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The successes at those regattas stand in sharp contrast to the Big Green's 12th-place showing at the George Warren Smith Trophy held at MIT this past weekend. On the Charles River in Boston, Becca Dellenbaugh '10 and Sarah Johnston '09 finished tied for second place in Division A of the Regis Bowl.

After an opening-day 85, 13 over par, Lauren Stricker '09 shot an eight-over 80 Sunday as the Big Green took ninth place at the ECAC championships.

Women's golf ends in middle of the pack at ECACs

Courtsey of dartmouthsports.com The Dartmouth women's golf team finished ninth out of 17 teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships Sunday at Williamsburg, Va., shooting 71-over par for a final score of 647 as Princeton University took first with a score of 599. Katie Gulemi '11 and Kathleen Quirk '12 led the Big Green in scoring, both shooting 18 over par, 162.

Women's Soccer Falls to Tigers,1-0

Big Green women's soccer was unable to find the back of the net during the Big Green's 1-0 loss to Princeton Saturday afternoon in Princeton, N.J. Princeton (6-1-1, 2-0 Ivy) jumped on the board in the 32nd minute with a rocket from Sarah Peteraf from 25 yards out that beat Dartmouth goalkeeper Laurel Peak '09 to the back of the net. The Big Green dropped its second game this season by a score of 1-0 to an Ivy League opponent.

Men's Soccer Ties Princeton in Ivy Opener

In its first Ivy League match of the season, the Big Green men's soccer team drew a 1-1 overtime tie against Princeton in the Tigers' stadium debut in Princeton, N.J. The tie moved the Big Green to 5-2-1 (0-0-1 Ivy), while the Tigers are now 2-6-1 (0-0-1 Ivy). "I think Princeton will be happier with the outcome than we will," head coach Jeff Cook said.

Last week, Ryan and I took our respective shots at predicting this year's BCS title game-winner. Making such a prediction, particularly in light of the fact that the 2008 college football season was and is now shaping up to be just as, if not more, volatile than last year's season, seemed to be a near impossible task. Between the politics of the polls, the complexity and sometimes surprising results of the oft-maligned BCS, the confounding early season upsets and blowouts and the lack of a dominant head-hancho (or two) at the top of the polls, there's just too much uncertainty to dub one squad the team of destiny with any reasonable degree of certainty.

Men run to first, women fifth place at Maine meet

In a tune-up to next week's New England Championships, the Dartmouth men's and women's cross-country teams finished first and fifth, respectively, at the Murray Keatinge Invitational, hosted by the University of Maine on Saturday in Orono, Maine. The Big Green men had 10 finishers among the top 24, and finished with 28 points to beat out the field of eight teams, which included Yale and the University of New Hampshire. Two-time Ivy League cross-country champion and All-American Ben True '08 won the five-mile race with a time of 23:57, nearly a minute faster than the next finisher.
