Big Green athletes receive awards for performance, service

SAM RAUCH / The Dartmouth By David Jiang The Dartmouth Staff Several Big Green varsity student-athletes were honored over the past few weeks with end-of-the-year awards and honors for their performance both inside and outside of the athletics realm. Baseball Nick Santomauro '10 was named Ivy Player of the Year, while Joe Sclafani '12 won Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors for the Ivy champion Big Green baseball team.

Film brings conflict in North Korea to campus

courtesy of koreatimes.co.kr After hearing that the non-profit organization "Liberty in North Korea" had launched a national tour of the Korean film "Crossing"(2008), Tricia Jo '09 jumped on the opportunity to use the film to expose the reality of life in North Korea to Dartmouth students. "Whatever we know about North Korea here at Dartmouth is maybe through a nuclear weapons class, or just from what we hear in the news," she said, adding later, "It's the most closed-off country in the world, but there is an insane human rights crisis [right now], a famine throughout the 1990s and utter economic devastation.

Softball loses Ivy League championship in game three

Jessica Griffen / The Dartmouth Senior Staff An opposite-field home run by Cornell's Elise Menaker in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and ignited the Big Red softball team to a 6-1 victory over Dartmouth in game three of the Ivy League championship in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Dartmouth softball team won two in a row Sunday to put them one game ahead of Harvard in the North Division, clinching the division title.

The Big Green softball team went 2-2 over the weekend, splitting both of its doubleheaders against Yale in New Haven, Conn. After the weekend, Dartmouth's Ivy League record stands at 11-5.

Jessica Griffen / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Cold wind and even a few flurries were not enough to cool down the Big Green softball team on Wednesday at Sachem Field, as Dartmouth swept Sacred Heart University in a doubleheader, 8-5 and 9-1. The Big Green (15-13, 6-2 Ivy) had success in all aspects of the game.
