Swimming, diving defeat Brown in close competition

The women came out on top in a match-up that was exhilarating for the team, according to swimmer Galen Barry '12. "I don't think we've beaten Brown in at least 10 years, so it was really exciting," Barry said.

Men's basketball defeats Colgate

After taking a 12-11 lead 7:55 into its game against Colgate University, the Big Green men's basketball team held on to earn its second victory of the season, 80-63, on Saturday at home. Dartmouth (2-4, 0-0 Ivy) notched its first win at home against the Raiders (0-5, 0-0 Patriot) after falling to Quinnipiac University last Tuesday in Hanover, 69-52. "We are in a rebuilding mode, so any time you work as hard as the players work and they can get rewarded with a solid home win is something that is going to make coming to practice a lot easier because they have had a positive experience," head coach Paul Cormier said on Saturday. Captain Clive Weeden '11 led the Big Green in scoring with 14 points against Colgate, knocking down four field goals and six free throws.

Men's hockey sweeps the Crimson

Doug Gonzalez / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Doug Gonzalez / The Dartmouth Senior Staff The Dartmouth men's ice hockey team swept Harvard University for the first time since 1995, defeating the Crimson 8-2 on Friday night in Cambridge, Mass., and 5-2 in Dartmouth's Thompson Arena on Saturday. Dartmouth (6-3-1, 3-0 Ivy) set the tone for the weekend early in Friday's match-up as forward Doug Jones '12 capitalized on work from forwards Eric Robinson '14 and Matthew Lindblad '14. The Big Green continued to pour on the offensive pressure as captain Scott Fleming '11 tallied another goal just over ten seconds later to give Dartmouth a two goal advantage less than four minutes into the game. The Crimson would not go down without a fight and capitalized on a Dartmouth penalty kill later in the period to bring the score to 2-1 at the end of the first period. Robinson secured three points in his first official collegiate game, having recently recovered from a shoulder injury.

Women's basketball opens season with 0-4 early record

After falling to the University of New Hampshire on Tuesday, the Dartmouth women's basketball team faced tough competition in the TD Bank Classic at the University of Vermont this weekend, where both Boston College and Marist College topped the Big Green, giving the team a 0-4 start to the season. In Tuesday's 65-52 loss to UNH, co-captain Brittney Smith '11 had trouble being an offensive threat because of a strong defensive effort by the Wildcats and only put up six points on the day. Dartmouth was out-rebounded 38-28, and UNH's domination in the paint contributed in large part to its 10-point lead at halftime. Early in the second half, the women closed the spread to seven but were unable to keep up the pressure.
