Bill could make College free for vets.

Correction appended Veterans who attend Dartmouth though the GI Bill's Yellow Ribbon Program will likely not have to pay tuition in order to attend the College, according to regulations announced by the Department of Veterans Affairs last week and interviews with College administrators.

Dean of the Faculty Carol Folt gave her report to the faculty on Monday.

Student pleads guilty to financial aid fraud

Mohammad Usman, a former member of the Class of 2010, pled guilty last Thursday, April 2, to falsely claiming thousands of dollars in financial aid and grants from the College, including Tucker Foundation internship funding, according to court documents. Usman left the College after his 2008 Summer term.

Former Dartmouth student pleads guilty to financial aid fraud

Mohammad Usman, a former member of the Class of 2010 who left Dartmouth after his 2008 Summer term, pled guilty on Thursday to falsely claiming thousands of dollars in financial aid from the College, including Tucker Foundation internship funding, according to court documents. Dartmouth spokesman Roland Adams would not confirm whether Usman left the College voluntarily, citing privacy laws. Usman admitted in federal court to committing identify fraud and higher education student assistance fraud.

Trauma from infant siblings' death lasts for life, study finds

The memory of an infant sibling dying in a neonatal intensive care unit significantly affects older siblings for the rest of their lives, according to a recent study published in The Journal of Pediatrics by researchers at Dartmouth Medical School. The study's authors, DMS professors Joanna Fanos, George Little and William Edwards, drew their research from interviews with 13 adults and one adolescent whose siblings died in infancy at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center between 1980 and 1990. According to the study, six participants reported "veiled" or secretive family communication, seven gave accounts of parents' ongoing grief and 11 reported high degrees of anxiety, particularly concerning pregnancy and their mothers' well being. Siblings of deceased infants often experience depression, anger, guilt and helplessness, the study found.

The Dartmouth Note-sharing web sites, which allow students to exchange class notes and other related materials online, are growing in popularity at universities nationwide, but few Dartmouth students appear to be active users. Most of the more popular sites -- including GradeGuru, StudyBlue and UniversityJunction -- are free for users with university-affiliated e-mail addresses.
