Panel examines trials faced by local area senior citizens

Seniors living in the Upper Valley and the organizations devoted to assisting them face a variety of financial and social obstacles to self-sufficiency, a panel of local experts on senior issues said at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare facility on Tuesday, giving the example of a 78-year-old Hanover resident who had to return to her job as a substitute teacher after her husband, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, gambled away their savings.

COS review, SA proposal differ

Chris Parker / The Dartmouth An official report on the College's Committee on Standards released by the COS Review Committee on Monday does not adequately reflect the Student Assembly's 2006-2007 recommendations on Dartmouth's judicial system, Assembly members complained in the organization's weekly meeting Tuesday. David Imamura '10, who compiled a document comparing the review committee's recommendations with those of the 2006-2007 Assembly committee, said he was disappointed by how little the reports had in common.

Athletic department hires Bender, Whitmore to fill openings

Dartmouth's Athletic Department announced the hirings of two new administrators last week. Rick Bender was named Dartmouth's director of varsity athletics communications and Richard Whitmore was selected as the new associate athletics director for operations and facilities. Bender, who served as the sports information director at Davidson College for seven years, will direct communications for Dartmouth's 34 varsity sports teams.


Koren Schram '09 received the Class of 1976 Award, given to Dartmouth's top female athlete, at the Celebration of Athletic Excellence Monday.

Banquet awards 10 students for athletic excellence

Jennie Post / The Dartmouth Staff In its annual Celebration of Athletic Excellence Monday night, Dartmouth's Athletic Department recognized the outstanding achievements of 10 Big Green student athletes. Swimmer Liz Mancuso '08 was awarded the highest honor, winning the Kenneth Archibald Prize for the year's best overall athlete.

Student veterans build solidarity in new group

Ten veterans at the College, searching for mutual support during the transition to their lives as students, have established the Dartmouth Undergraduate Veterans Association, a campus organization that aims to raise awareness of veterans' issues and provide support to student veterans with issues that may arise at Dartmouth. "What really motivated us to form our group is so that we can meet other undergraduate veterans and increase awareness about veteran issues because we are in the Dartmouth bubble," Phil Aubart '10, who has served in the U.S.

Committee releases COS review

The Committee on Standards Review Committee recommended that the College make the COS process more transparent and give accused students better access to resources in a report released Monday, but did not incorporate all of the suggestions of the Student Assembly COS Review Task Force.
