Fresh off the set of their recently concluded Comedy Central show “Key and Peele,” the shape-shifting Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele make their big screen debut in “Keanu” (2016). Like many television comedians have discovered, particularly Saturday Night Live cast members, cinematic audiences are unwelcoming of stars traversing media. Fortunately, the dynamic duo’s antics translate into a feature narrative film, while maintaining the same sketch comedy style which made them household names.

Amara Ihionu ’17 found her passion for art while trying to fulfill a distributive requirement. After taking “Drawing I” her freshman spring, she realized she wanted to explore more of what the department offers and decided to take “Painting I” and “Photography I” her sophomore year. Now, with more than enough studio art credits to her name and experience that includes multiple mediums within the department, she has embraced her major in studio art.

With Leo officially in the Oscar record books, we can all rest easy. But it took “The Revenant” (2015), a film plagued with budgetary problems, threats of hypothermia, cast injuries and a fired producer to get him there. Alejandro González Iñárritu has a history of torturous films (“Biutiful” (2010) and “Birdman” (2014)) that study the processes of human will and endurance. His films are inflections of this central theme, and “The Revenant” applies his aesthetic to the 1820s American frontier, before Manifest Destiny was a national rallying cry and the road to expansion was paved in blood.

Winter Carnival is over, and despite the brief subarctic temperatures, a lot of people are still wondering whether or not it actually happened. Without the usual events like Pond Party or the polar bear plunge, some people feel like they missed out on a big weekend. Others are probably still recovering from their hangovers. And with the return of rain, students are already looking to spring -- and the next big weekend, Green Key.

February 14 is the second most polarizing day of the year (after Mincemeat Day on October 26). If you’re single, you loathe it with a passion, wear all black and hide in the shadows of your twin bed with your blinds closed. If you’re in a relationship, you carry roses and chocolate around with you, go out to a nice meal with your significant other and revel in the disgusting perfection that is your love life. And if you’re hooking up with someone on and off, you look forward to the possibility of a casual booty call or text or emoji or whatever the kids are doing nowadays.

Caroline Berens ’18: When I was trying to soften a Pop-Tart in the Fahey-McClane fourth floor kitchen, and I accidentally set the microwave to two minutes instead of twenty seconds. Within a minute the microwave, and then the entire kitchen, were engulfed in smoke, and I spent the rest of the night airing it out so the fire alarm didn’t go off. It wasn’t funny at the time, but it was the next day.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Over break, I moved out of my childhood home. I sat in my attic surrounded by boxes, flipping through an old photo album. I was consumed as my mind relocated to the ’90s (the best decade ever), a simpler time when the key to capturing a great photo was to have everyone in the shot shout “CHEEEESE!” in unison. Click. There. Everyone’s pearly whites are showing, and if they aren’t you won’t find out until the film is developed. The color is raw and unfiltered. There is no retouching. Just a moment in history that was happening when someone pulled out their camera and “click” — the moment captured in its essence, we move on and return to these memories at a later time.

Happy Friday once again, Mirror readers. You, like us, are probably plummeting into disbelief and chagrin that we are already halfway through January. Maybe like Caroline, you’ve already given up on 16 of your 17 resolutions (the only successful one being to keep a daily gratitude journal, which is rapidly becoming illegible). Or maybe like Hayley, you completely forgot to make resolutions and are still in denial that is already 2016.
