Men swim against Bulldogs

The Big Green men's swim team, which has struggled this season, will host Yale on Saturday looking to improve their 1-8 record. The Dartmouth swimmers, who surrendered a tough loss to the Army Cadets last weekend, will fight another battle this weekend when they face the powerhouse Yale Bulldogs. Coach Jim Wilson will challenge Yale for the first time in his coaching career. "Yale is a very strong team, and we're hoping for some very strong individual performances this weekend," he said. Some of this weekend's highlights could come from Bob Halk '94 in the backstroke, Jason Stern '94 in the butterfly, or Ben Lanon '96 in the breaststroke. Wilson said this year has been a rebuilding year for the Big Green.

Women's basketball aims for first place

After a successful weekend on the road against league foes Brown University and Yale University, the Women's basketball team heads home to Leede Arena for crucial weekend engagements against Columbia University and Cornell University. Last weekend's success was highlighted by a hard-fought 59-55 defeat of two-time defending Ivy League champion Brown on Friday.

Swimmers win war

The women's swim team raised their record to 7-3 with their sixth straight win against Army on Saturday. The squad won 13 of 16 events to dominate the Bulldogs. Coach Betsy Mitchell said, "The women who have already qualified for Eastern Collegiate Swimming Championships are swimming faster than they ever have at mid-season." "We could be winning meets and swimming poorly and it wouldn't mean anything to me.

Track finishes second

The Dartmouth men's track team fell to 1-1 on the season with a second place finish this Saturday at Leverone Field House. The three-way meet was dominated by the University of Connecticut, who scored 105 points.

Women's hoops splits

If people still doubted that the Dartmouth women's basketball team was for real, they've certainly changed their minds by now. The Big Green emerged from their toughest road swing of the season with an impressive 59-55 defeat of two-time defending Ivy League Champion Brown and a hard-fought 69-65 loss to Yale. The weekend's two-game split upped the Big Green's record to 9-8 overall, and kept them perched atop the Ivy League standings with a 4-1 record. Not bad for a team that was picked to finish 5th in the preseason media poll.

Powerhouse Princeton downs men's swim team

Princeton, one of the powerhouses of the Ivy League, defeated the Engineers on Saturday. Despite the loss, several swimmers showed strong individual performances. Thomas Slabaugh '96 swam the 100-yard backstroke in 54.3 seconds, and the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.
