Club hockey drops high-scorer

The Dartmouth Club Hockey Team lost 10-9 Sunday to the Berlin Jr. Kings at Thompson Arena. In a highly offensive game punctuated by many big hits, the team fell behind early on three quick goals.

Squash gets routed by defending natl. champs

The Dartmouth Squash teams suffered only their second losses of the season on Saturday as both teams were defeated 9-0 by the Trinity squash powerhouse. The Big Green women fell 9-0 to a very talented Trinity squad.

Juniors swim great as Big Green falls to Columbia

Despite great swims by juniors Thomas Sanford, Matt Sueoka and Ryan Goldhahn, the Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team fell to the Columbia Lions, 177-121, on Saturday. After helping Dartmouth's 500 medley relay to victory, Sanford won the 50 breaststroke (26.99), 200 breaststroke (2:08.42) and the 100 individual medley (53.97). Team captain Paul Schned '03 said of Sanford's performances, "He swam so fast, it was really totally sweet.

Yacey, Big Green ready for UVM

Tomorrow night, the Dartmouth men's hockey team will return to Thompson Arena to host its intrastate rival, the University of Vermont. The Big Green (9-6-1, 5-4-0 ECAC) traveled up I-89 to Burlington to play the Catamounts on Jan.

In late-night swimming action Wednesday, the Dartmouth men's Swimming and Diving Team defeated Middlebury College at the Middlebury Natatorium 188-88 and set 14 pool records. Ryan Goldhahn '04, Thomas Sanford '04 and Yale Fillingham '06 each won or had a part in winning four events in which records were set.

Hockey earns national ranking

The Dartmouth men's hockey team improved to 9-4 (5-2 ECAC) by winning the Thompson-hosted Ledyard National Bank Auld Lang Syne Classic and picking up its first road victory. The team shook a monkey off its back down I-89 by coming from behind to beat the University of Vermont at Gutterson Field House 3-2 to pick up a key road victory. Lee Stempniak '05 put Dartmouth on the board just 22 seconds into the matchup with the local rival Catamounts, tucking a Trevor Byrne '03 rebound past Shawn Conschafter. The Cats came back the next period, however, dominating play and putting up two goals while shutting down the Dartmouth offense.

There was no Dick Vitale talking about who would be cutting down the nets at the Final Four, and no one was likely scrambling to set up an office pool as the teams were announced, but last Monday's NCAA tournament selection show had all the excitement of March Madness for the Dartmouth men's soccer team. Unfortunately, the Big Green's name never came up, as the squad was snubbed for a bid in the field of 48.
