Crew teams have mixed weekend results at home and away

Zeke Turner / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Dartmouth's lightweight crew team saw little success this weekend, as the crews slipped both at home and away against Columbia and Yale. The first novice boat of the heavyweight team, however, coasted to a sound victory against Boston University, while the other varsity boats faced stiffer competition in the Edward Bill Cup. The Big Green women's crew posted mixed results on Saturday against Radcliffe and Syracuse University. On Saturday, the lightweights traveled to Derby, Conn., where Yale overwhelmed Dartmouth and swept all five races. Dartmouth's first varsity eight posted a time of 5:48.1 against Yale's 5:41.4.

The Big Green men's tennis team fell to both Yale and Brown over the weekend, dropping the team's Ivy League record at 0-6.

Softball ends three-game win streak in close game at UConn

The Dartmouth softball team came up short against the University of Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon in Storrs, Conn., as the Huskies halted a three-game Big Green winning streak by a score of 5-3. Dartmouth (18-15, 9-3 Ivy) still maintains its lead atop the North Division of the Ivy League, while the Huskies (25-12, 7-6 Big East) continue their midseason resurgence, notching their 11th victory in the last 12 games. Heading into its second non-conference game in less than a week, the Big Green looked to capitalize on its momentum after sweeping a doubleheader with Brown last Sunday, co-captain Christy Autin '10 said. "We faced some hardship early in the season while up against some of the biggest and best programs in the country, and since we've been home," she said.

The Dartmouth women's track and field team took first place in the Brown Invitational, edging out Brown by less than three points.

Big Green track and field teams begin outdoor season on top

|

Jared Bookman / The Dartmouth Staff Despite extremely windy conditions and bad weather, the Big Green found success in both track and field events during its first two outdoor competitions of Spring term at the Brown Invitational this past weekend and the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton the weekend before. At Princeton, Big Green not only walked away with six first-place finishes, but also a new school record, an NCAA Regionals-qualifying throw and four IC4A-qualifying performances. Emily Daly '09 smashed the previous College record to pieces with her hammer throw of 59.34 meters -- almost 2 meters farther than Dartmouth's previous record.

The Big Green women's tennis team will continue its Ivy League schedule, playing Yale and Brown this weekend before taking on Harvard next week.
