Correction appended

The Dartmouth coed sailing team had a strong campaign this weekend, finishing 11th at the Coed New England Championships at Boston College and third at the Oberg Trophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

With the 11th-place finish at the Championships, the Big Green was able to outperform its 14th-place ranking in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association.

Meanwhile, the Dartmouth women's team also competed this weekend at the Wick/Shrew Regatta at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, taking ninth place in a field of 18 teams.

At the Coed New England Championships, the Big Green was led by the team of Sam Williams '12, Anne Megarget '09 and Sam Andrew '11, which finished in 10th place in the 'A' Division, earning 139 points towards Dartmouth's total score.

In the 'B' Division, the crew of Ed Jude Glackin '11, Ali Hiller '11 and Steph Gagnon '10 finished 13th, and contributed 167 points to the Big Green's score. Dartmouth's combined score of 306 was 99 points behind first-place finisher Boston College.

Sailing against some of the top competition in the country, the Big Green was able to hold their own and surpass its ranking coming into the competition.

"Our conference is the strongest," Matt Cohen '10 said. "It was the strongest field I've seen since I went to nationals my freshman year, so to outperform our ranking was nice."

Although the Big Green finished outside of the top nine and failed to qualify for the National Coed Semifinals, Williams said that the team was proud of the effort it put forth.

"This weekend was definitely the best racing we've done this year, and one of the best racing results we've gotten," he said.

At the Oberg Trophy, Dartmouth had another strong showing and finished with 203 points, securing third place in a field of 18 teams.

In the 'B' division, Rocky Merchant '12 and Colin Treseler '09 coasted to a first-place finish, earning 80 points for the Big Green.

In total, Dartmouth had five first-place finishes and three second-place finishes in the effort.

In the 'A' division, Kathy Oprea '10 and Bernie Roesler '12 sailed to a fourth-place finish, earning 125 points.

The Big Green will now shift its focus to next weekend's team race at Roger Williams University, where Dartmouth will try to qualify for the New England Team Race Championships, held on May 8.

"As far as team racing goes, we're really focusing on it this spring," Williams said. "We've been doing better and better, and practicing has definitely has gotten more intense. We're definitely looking forward to this weekend."

The women's team was able to secure a ninth-place finish at the Wick/Shrew Regatta, competing against a very strong field that consisted of several nationally-ranked programs.

In the 'A' division, the duo of Becca Dellenbaugh '10 and Sarah Johnston '09 sailed to a 14th-place finish, contributing 177 points to the team effort.

The 'B' division boat, which consisted of Kendall Reiley '09 and Rachel Moncton '12, had a very strong showing and finished eighth, earning 132 points in the effort.

The women's team will compete next week at the New England Women's Championships at the University of Vermont, where the team hopes to qualify for the Women's National Dinghy Championship.

The original version of this article incorrectly stated that Emily Shaw '12 and Jennifer Watkins '10 sailed with Bernie Roesler '12 in the 'A' division to earn a fourth-place finish. In fact, Roesler sailed with Kathy Oprea '10.
