North Carolina State University sent a warning letter to freshman student Taylor Moseley after he started a Facebook group calling for John Wall, the nation's top college basketball recruit, to play at N.C. State, according to the Associated Press. The University's compliance director, Michelle Lee, said that the group violated NCAA rules in its attempt to influence the college choice of a recruit. In order to comply with NCAA rules, N.C. State threatened to deny Moseley tickets to sporting events, and formally "disassociate" him from the athletic program if he did not change the site, the Associated Press reported. The NCAA spokesman Erik Christianson said he supports Lee's decision and stated that the NCAA expects other institutions to respond similarly in such situations.
The University of Pennsylvania announced Mike McLaughlin will serve as the new head coach of the women's basketball team, in a statement released by Penn athletic director Steve Bilsky on Friday. McLaughlin comes to Penn after coaching 14 seasons at Holy Family University, also in Philadelphia, Penn. During his 14-year tenure at Holy Family, McLaughlin coached the Lady Tigers to a 407-16 record. McLaughlin set a record by reaching 400 wins in only 459 games, the fastest an NCAA women's basketball coach has reached that mark. McLaughlin said that he looks forward to building a foundation of success that will enable the women's basketball program to be consistently on top of the Ivy League. Penn finished tied for fourth in the Ivy League this past season. Dartmouth won the Ivy League women's basketball title.
