So I thought I had a pretty good idea for this column. It seems like every other night, I'm crushed by many of my friends who say they can't go out because they "have lift the next morning." I usually respond by making a raised-eyebrow face, which pretty clearly suggests, "Fine, but for the record, I think you're being a wussy." (Except usually that last word begins with a p, not a w.) In reality though, there's not much I can say to them.

Softball's season ends with four losses to Harvard

Ashley Mitchell / The Dartmouth Staff Ashley Mitchell / The Dartmouth Staff In a winner-take-all four-game series against Harvard University, the Dartmouth softball team fell behind early and had no answer to the Crimson's big bats, as the Big Green's run for a second-straight Ivy League North Division title was cut short. Harvard (25-20, 17-3 Ivy) swept Dartmouth (13-26, 11-9 Ivy) in the four-game series. "I think we just put way too much pressure on ourselves," co-captain Alyssa Parker '10 said. The Big Green opened its final series of the season trailing Harvard by two games and needing to take three of four games from the Crimson in order to claim a share of the division crown. The Dartmouth losses on Saturday gave Harvard a four-game lead with two games left to play, ending the Big Green's title chase. In the opener, the Crimson came out blazing, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by a three-run shot from sophomore Whitney Shaw. The situation would not improve for the Big Green for the rest of the day, as the Crimson starter Rachel Brown went to work and methodically broke down Dartmouth's lineup with almost unhittable pitches. "We were gearing up to face more speed against Rachel Brown," Parker said.

Baseball goes 3 -1 vs. Brown to claim a two game division lead

The Dartmouth baseball team seized control of the Ivy League's Rolfe Division by sweeping a pair of midweek games against Brown University in Providence, R.I., on Tuesday and Wednesday. After splitting two games with Brown (12-27, 9-7 Ivy) on Saturday, Sunday's doubleheader was rained out, forcing the two teams to make up the games this week. Dartmouth (21-13, 11-5 Ivy) will now take a two-game division lead into its final series of the regular season a four game home-and-home set with Harvard University that begins tomorrow in Cambridge, Mass. Should the Big Green advance, it will likely face Columbia University in the Ivy League Championship Series.

Head coach Andy Towers said that the team played well in most regards, with the notable exception of its shooting. "You have to take advantage of the opportunities you have," he said.

Football prepares for upcoming season with Spring practices

Rising temperatures and students coming out of hibernation signal another Spring in Hanover. For the Big Green football team, that means the start of Spring training. As the team looks toward the Fall, Dartmouth's players and coaches are working hard preparing for the upcoming season. This Saturday the team will host its annual Spring game an intra-squad scrimmage in which coaches and fans can catch a glimpse of what the team will look like come Fall. During every offseason, the football team logs considerable hours preparing for its next year of play.

For the men's lightweight team, this weekend was one of the most exciting meets to date, according to captain Josh Patch '09. "There was an air that we were going to have a good row because we were rowing well all week," he said.
