Two baseball wins keep Big Green alive for playoffs

With a line drive shot from Matt Parisi ’15, the baseball team tallied a dramatic walk-off win against Harvard University to complete the sweep of the doubleheader in Hanover. The Big Green set up a critical match up in Cambridge on Tuesday, looking to keep its hopes alive for a seventh straight Red Rolfe Division title.

Softball starts crucial series against Harvard with split

A two-game split in Hanover means that tomorrow’s softball doubleheader will decide the Ivy League North Division crown. After falling in eight innings to Harvard University, the team came back to walk off against the Crimson (28-13, 14-1 Ivy) in game two. The Big Green (27-16, 16-2 Ivy) now controls its destiny for the division title.

Tennis teams see mixed results in final Ivy matches vs. Harvard

The men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped up their seasons this weekend with matches against Harvard University. The No. 42 men fell 4-1 on the road against the No. 33 Crimson and finished a historic season with its most League wins since 1997. The women won at home in a dramatic 4-3 win against No. 53 Harvard to cap the season.

Women’s lacrosse ends season with 9-8 win

Senior women’s lacrosse players led their team to a thrilling 9-8 win against Harvard University (9-6, 4-3 Ivy) in their final game for the Big Green (6-8, 3-4 Ivy). While the Harvard senior players were honored before the game in their home stadium, it was Dartmouth’s seniors who clinched the match.

Golf teams both finish sixth in Ivy Champs.

The golf teams finished their seasons this weekend at the Baltusrol Golf Club competing for the Ivy League Championship as both teams finished sixth. Columbia University took the men’s title by 12 strokes, and Harvard University claimed the women’s title by 21 strokes.

When Dartmouth’s Steve Mangan ’14 crossed the finish line in the mile race at the indoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in Hanover in March, he shattered the Ivy record by nearly three seconds. The previous record-holder — Courtney Jaworski of the University of Pennsylvania — had run his best in 2006 but will soon return to Hanover in a different context, as the head coach of Dartmouth’s women’s cross country team and an assistant coach on the track and field teams.

In a weekend that included inclement weather, tough conditions and location changes, the men’s and women’s crew teams saw mixed results. The women’s crew team competed in a two-day Clemson Invitational, faring better on the second day. The men’s lightweight team failed to win a race as it struggled against Yale University in the Durand Cup and Columbia University in the Subin Cup. The men’s heavyweight team fell to Boston University and beat Rutgers University.

Equestrian wins fourth Ivy League Championship

Spending just over $23.4 million in fiscal year 2013, Dartmouth’s athletics department expenditures ranked the third-highest in the Ivy League, according to the Department of Education’s equity in athletics data analysis cutting tool. The University of Pennsylvania leads the League in spending, with fiscal year 2013 expenditures totaling over $39 million, and Yale University tops out above $36 million. Dartmouth’s budget more closely resembles the rest of the Ivies, which spent between $18 and $22 million overall.

Men’s tennis seals best Ivy record since 1998

After making quick work in a 4-0 sweep at Yale University on Saturday, the men’s tennis team won in dramatic fashion for the second week in a row at the Thompson outdoor courts on Sunday. It took a third set tiebreaker victory from Chris Kipouras ’15 to secure the win for the Big Green (18-5, 5-1 Ivy) against Brown University on senior day. The final score line was 4-3. The two wins secured the team’s winningest Ivy record since the eight-team league was established in 1998 and the 18 wins ties an all-time high.
