Students share personal anecdotes at discussion

In a dimly lit room in Casque and Gauntlet on Monday, students sat in a circle of couches eating pulled pork sandwiches and discussing life at the College versus life in the "real world." The event, titled "Dartmouth and The Real World': Negotiating the Gap," was one of the weekly dinner discussions hosted by Women's Forum, a group that focuses on creating a safe space to foster dialogue of different issues on campus. Maia Matsushita '13 told personal stories and spoke about her views on the transition between life at Dartmouth and beyond. Matsushita said Dartmouth is defined by the people who attend.

Colleges will have to reform how they address sexual assault when President Barack Obama signs the Violence Against Women Act, a bill that the House of Representatives passed on a 286 to 138 vote last Thursday.

Trustees vote to fund new research building

|

The Board of Trustees approved $116.5 million in funding to build the Williamson Translational Research Building on Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's Lebanon campus at their termly meeting this past weekend. The building, which will house academic and research facilities, will foster collaboration between the Geisel School of Medicine and DHMC.


The College's 3.8 percent rise in undergraduate costs for the 2013-14 school year was lower than cost increases in past years.

Students receive grants for art project proposals

Jin Lee / The Dartmouth Staff With impassioned gestures and concentration, Paul Finkelstein '13 stood facing the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, their string instruments swelling and ebbing to Grieg's "Holberg Suite." His hands moved gently, then swiftly, while captivated students and community members filled the pews of Rollins Chapel. Finkelstein was able to arrange and conduct the concert with funding from the Year of the Arts Steering Committee and the Dartmouth Centers Forum.

Palaeopitus to write report on the College

In light of the upcoming presidential transition, Palaeopitus senior society and Student Assembly are boosting efforts to increase communication between the student body and College administrators. Palaeopitus will publish an annual State of the College report this spring, in addition to a potentially separate report to President-elect Philip Hanlon.

Van Kirk said that tapas actually has the opposite meaning in Spanish to cover.

Admissions seeks to boost yield

\n Nicholas Root / The Dartmouth Staff \nFollowing a 3 percent decrease in applications for the Class of 2017 from last year, the Admissions Office is in the process of changing the Dimensions of Dartmouth show, the tour guide program and the financial aid website to attract more applicants and increase accepted student yield rates. The yield for students who attend Dimensions, the College's accepted students weekend, has been steadily declining over the past seven years, Maria Laskaris, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, said.

Organizations under UFC make do with smaller budget

Due to the Undergraduate Finance Committee's total decrease of $60,000 last spring, many organizations receiving funding have decreased programming and become more conscious about their spending. All organizations funded by the UFC are within their budgets this year and have been spending responsibly, UFC chair Rohail Premjee '14 said. "Every organization has done well with what they've been given," he said.
