Women's tennis splits weekend matches

|

The Dartmouth women's tennis team had a mixed weekend, losing to Pennsylvania and beating Columbia to bring the Big Green to 1-2 overall, 1-1 in the Ivy League. The team lost 7-0 to Penn, despite forcing several matches to three sets.

Marcus: homosexuals should be more open

|

Eric Marcus, co-author of Greg Louganis' biography "Breaking the Silence," said at a Saturday night speech that stereotypes about homosexuals will continue to exist until gays, lesbians and bisexuals become more publicly open with their sexuality. "By keeping secrets, we don't give those around us a chance to change and deny those who are like us a chance to know there are others like us," Marcus said. Marcus was scheduled to deliver a lecture titled, "Secrets: Why We Keep Them and How They Hurt Us," to an audience in 105 Dartmouth.

Women's crew wins triple meet

|

The women's crew team prevailed in its triple meet with the University of New Hampshire and Northeastern University Saturday morning, beating the closest team by more than six seconds. Dartmouth's first boat completed the 1750-meter course on the Oyster River in 5:59, ahead of New Hampshire's time of 6:05 and Northeastern's time of 6:10. Coach Barbara Kirch said that corresponds to a margin of victory of more than a boat length. Though she said she would not call the victory a rout, Kirch said "it was a good win." Varsity Coxswain Vanessa Santaga '96 said her boat "raced them to the thousand.

Baseball team splits Princeton doubleheader

The resolve of the Dartmouth baseball team underwent its strongest test of the season yesterday in a doubleheader at Red Rolfe Field against Princeton, the team's home-opener.. Despite the less-than-ideal baseball weather, the team's silent bats and overly generous pitching, and a horrendous first few innings, the Big Green nine passed with relative success, splitting the two games. Dartmouth 7, Princeton 8 In the opener, the Dartmouth nine showed a lot of heart as they rallied from an 8-1 deficit in the final innings of the game.

Student crashes car, 2 injured

|

Raman Soobrian '95 abandoned his car late Thursday night or early Friday morning after veering off Old Tuck Drive and hitting a tree sometime during the evening, injuring two of the three people in the vehicle. Soobrian "lost control of the vehicle possibly from going to fast," according to College Proctor Bob McEwen.

Del Pozo for President

Thechoice is clear. If Dartmouth want an effective government that will serve the students and will bicker less, then tomorrow students must vote for Brandon del Pozo '96 for Student Assembly president and Kelii Opulauoho '96 for vice president. Del Pozo, the most qualified candidate for president, possesses the best understanding of the issues currently facing the Assembly and its role on campus. Opulauoho is the best candidate for vice president because he complements del Pozo well.

Men's lacrosse edges Penn, record at 5-0

After being on the road five of the last six weekends, the last thing the men's lacrosse team needed was another away game, but that is exactly what it faced. Friday, the men traveled to Pennsylvania where they prepared for their first Ivy League match-up.
