Most Dartmouth students would have traded many things to extend their Homecoming weekend another day or two.
A 1-0 double overtime loss at Cornell on Sunday gave the men's soccer team its fourth-straight one goal loss and ended any aspirations the team may have had for the Ivy League crown. The loss, which was the Big Green's third straight Ivy League defeat, dropped the team to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in Ivy League play.
To the Editor: The organized, intentional disruption of Professor Tom Luxon's presentation of the Alpha Chi Alpha Fraternity "Hell Night" tape and the Alpha Delta Fraternity "Sex Room" tape was a violation of the most basic standards of decency and civility and an attack on Dartmouth's community of scholars. Professor Luxon was invited to present his analysis of two documents and then lead a discussion about the issues they raised.

The Men's Rugby team wrapped up its defense of the New England Division I Championship with a Homecoming victory over Harvard on Saturday. Along with the repeat title, the team improved to 6-0, extending a streak of 15 regular season wins stretching back to 1993 and guaranteeing themselves a first round home game in the Northeastern Rugby Union playoffs. Harvard gave the Green the challenge that was expected from the traditional rivalry.

This weekend, the College turned on the famous "green light" in Baker Library's tower, an old tradition of unknown origin. The green light, which is turned on for major weekends, is often referred to by students as the "money light" because it is lit on occasions that attract many College alumni. On Dartmouth Night this past Friday, the green light was turned on and stayed on through the night, according to John Gratiot, associate director of Facilities, Operations and Management. "The light is turned on based on requests from the Events Office," Gratiot said.
Jay Heinrichs, editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine since 1986, said he does not presume to have any special perspective on the College. "I'm aware of my ignorance," he said. Even after nine years at the helm of the Alumni Magazine, "the coolest professional job at Dartmouth," Heinrichs said the College "is so complex and changing that I could never know it completely." Since taking over the Alumni Magazine, Heinrichs, the first non-alumnus to edit the magazine, has turned the publication around. Before he was hired, the magazine's budget was $400,000 and it ran an annual deficit of $60,000, according to Heinrichs.
