Marking its best performance at the NCAA Championships since winning in 2007, the Dartmouth ski team finished the Championships in third place on Saturday. Chief Executive Officer of General Electric and College Trustee Jeffrey Immelt '78 will serve as the chair of the newly-created Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, an executive order expected to oversee a panel of economic advisers, according to The New York Times. Students called for greater transparency regarding acting Dean of the College Sylvia Spears' decision not to be considered for permanent deanship in a letter sent to campus on Tuesday morning. The letter's eight writers also appealed for increased diversity in the selection committee that will hire the new dean. Six hundred and two students had signed the electronic letter as of 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has selected Dartmouth to receive a $2-million grant to launch the Children's Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Center at Dartmouth, the College announced in a press release on Monday. The center will be an outgrowth of the College's Toxic Metals Research group, according to the release.

Big Green runningback Nick Schwieger '12 and Harvard University's Gino Gordon were awarded the Asa S. Bushnell Cup and named co-Ivy League Players of the Year at a press conference in New York City. Schwieger is the sixth Big Green player to earn the honor since its inception 40 years ago, and the first since Jay Fielder '92 won the award 18 years ago.
