A record high 21,700 students applied to the Class of 2015, according to a College press release. The elevated number of applicants represents a 15.7 percent increase from last year's numbers, the press release stated.

The Admissions Office received 18,778 applications for the Class of 2014, The Dartmouth previously reported.

While much of the data from the applicant pool is still being collected by admissions officers, applications submitted by students of color are already 17 percent higher than last year's figures, according to the press release.

Applications from students living outside the United States are up by 14 percent, while applications from California residents have also increased by 21 percent, according to the press release.
