Graduate student Scott Smedinghoff died, College President Phil Hanlon and Dean of graduate studies Jon Kull announced in a campus wide email on Saturday afternoon.
Smedinghoff, 28, was found dead at his Lebanon apartment on Friday, according to a Lebanon Police Department release. Two officers went to check on him as he had not been heard from for several days.
The circumstances of his death are currently under investigation, the release stated.
Smedinghoff, who earned his bachelors degree in mathematics and physics from Williams College, was a fourth year doctoral student in the mathematics department.
On campus, he was involved in music through the Hopkins Center, most notably as a pianist for the Dartmouth Wind Ensemble. He was also choirdirector at the First Congregational Church in Thetford, Vermont.
