Most of DDS to close for interim

Dartmouth Dining Services will be closing almost all food services, with the exception of Courtyard Cafe and Full Fare, for renovation and construction during the upcoming interim.

The Courtyard Cafe will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday starting August 28.

Full Fare will retain its summer hours over interim. It will be open for breakfast from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday with Sunday brunch from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and dinner will be from 4:45 p.m. until 7 p.m. every night.

Collis Cafe will continue to serve food until its August 27 closing. Collis will remain closed until September 25.

The Lone Pine Tavern will remain open through August 24 and will reopen one month later on September 24.

Food Court will close on August 27 and will remain closed until September 24.

The DDS-run cafes at Hanover Country Club and Kellogg Cafeteria will retain their current hours.

Full Fare is open during the interim to serve several student groups and activities, such as members of the football team, students involved with Freshmen Trips and Resident Advisors and Undergraduate Advisors-in-training.

"A lot of student activity will take place in the interim," Napolitano said.

The hours may change "but only if the football team has a special request," Napolitano said. "It is because they have 150 customers and are our largest customer during the interim."

The chief reason to close the eateries is to accommodate renovations.

"Thayer and Collis are in the works," DDS Director Pete Napolitano said. He said the only time DDS could conduct renovations of the two buildings was during a three-week "window of opportunity" Aug. 28 to Sept. 20.

Construction began last week on a new walkway connecting Collis Center, Robinson Hall and Thayer Dining Hall. This expanded walkway will include benches for outdoor eating.

Napolitano said that construction on that "Thayer Plaza" will continue well into the beginning of the academic year. The current projected date of completion is Oct. 11.

The planned renovations of Food Court include the installation of new air ventilation systems to support a large pizza and grill service.

Full Fare will close after interim and in the fall be replaced by Westside Buffet.

Collis Cafe will undergo several menu changes, including a new coffee line and vegetarian meals. The cafe's sandwich deli will move to Lone Pine Tavern and replace its current menu.
