Yesterday's 10-7 win over the University of Vermont meant a lot of things for the men's lacrosse team.
After agreeing to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent late Monday night, Dartmouth quarterback Jay Fiedler '94 will sign a two-year contract tonight at a mini-camp in Philadelphia, Pa. Fiedler will receive a $5,000 signing bonus, and will have a first-year salary of $108,000 and a second-year salary of $135,000.
Over the weekend, the women's tennis team crushed Brown University 7-0 but turned around and dropped a tough one to Yale University 2-5.

By SCOTT ANTHONY Sports Writer Dartmouth quarterback Jay Fiedler '94 was not selected in the National Football League draft, which concluded yesterday. Several prognosticators billed the strong-armed, 6-foot-3 Fiedler as a late pick in the seven-round draft. Fiedler led the Big Green to the Ivy League title his junior year and was named Ivy League Player of the Year.
The baseball team saw its hopes for a Red Rolfe Division title slip away after losing three and winning one in two doubleheaders against Yale over the weekend.
Ghosts from seasons past haunted the men's lacrosse team this Saturday in Providence. The 19th-ranked Big Green lost 10-9 to seventh-ranked Brown in a manner that conjured up memories from last season. Fourth-quarter comebacks by opponents resulted in tough one-goal losses for the Big Green several times last year, and it happened again this weekend. Dartmouth held a 7-5 advantage over the Bears heading into the fourth quarter, only to have Brown explode for five goals in the final 15 minutes.
Continuing their dominance of the Ivy League, the women's lacrosse team racked up two more wins this past week, defeating Boston College and Brown University. In an easy 13-3 drubbing of BC, Dartmouth's defense played strongly, allowing only four shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of the game to help conclude the first half with a lopsided 9-0 lead. The Big Green had a slow start scoring due to a patient attack.
The men's tennis team kept its NCAA post season hopes alive with two close wins on the road this weekend.
On a sunny, Tuesday afternoon with perfect playing conditions, the men's tennis team was unable to pull through a close 5-2 match against West Virginia at the Topliff tennis courts. The men, who lost all three doubles matches, started the singles out strong, only to lose three tight three-set matches. "We were still in it with 15 minutes to go," Coach Chuck Kinyon said.

Jerry Singleton will transfer from Colorado State University next fall with a good chance to be the starting quarterback now that the historic career of Jay Fielder '94 is over. While Coach John Lyons would not say that Singleton will get the starting nod, he did say that "we think he's a pretty good player" and that "we think he has the possibility of being a real good one." Singleton, who is 6-foot-1 and 197 pounds, will be a junior, and will be able to play immediately, Lyons said. Lyons has not seen Singleton play live, but said he was very impressed by films he saw of Singleton playing junior college football.
Last year's Ivy League champion Princeton ended the Dartmouth women's tennis team's undefeated streak in the Ivy League last weekend by a few instrumental points. The loss brought the Big Green's overall record to 4-3. The day was filled with bad luck for the Big Green, who began the match with two sick players.
