Cross country prepares for Heps

Courtesy of DartmouthSports.com Facing difficult conditions, runners from the Dartmouth men's cross country team raced to disappointing results at the 20th Annual Mayor's Cup at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., over the weekend, finishing eighth out of 11 teams. Adam Doherty '13, the top finisher for the Big Green, posted a time of 26:10 in the eight-kilometer race. This was the Big Green's second time racing at Franklin Park this season, after first racing at the site two weeks ago for the New England Championships, held on Oct.

Women's tennis breaks even in Northeast Regional play

Molly Scott '11 and Mary Beth Winingham '10 made it to the semifinals of the Northeast Regional Tennis Indoor Championship doubles bracket at Yale last weekend. The pair, seeded third, lost to a second-seeded duo from Brown, 8-5, on Monday after beating a fifth-seeded Harvard twosome.

Women's lax looks strong with four wins at Fall Festival

Doug Gonzalez / The Dartmouth Staff The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team dominated its competition at the Dartmouth Fall Festival on Sunday, defeating the University of New Hampshire and the University of Vermont in four total scrimmage games. In an unusual format, the Dartmouth Fall Festival put the three teams in a double round robin, in which each school played every opponent twice one 40-minute game and one 25-minute game. The Big Green defeated Vermont by scores of 13-2 and 9-1.

Women's volleyball drops straight sets in road matches

On the road for the third time this month, the Dartmouth women's volleyball team was unable to notch a much-needed win, falling to both Yale and Brown in straight sets and dropping to sixth place in the Ivy League. The Big Green (7-11, 3-5 Ivy) has now lost five of its last six games after the season's brief encouraging start. Heading into Friday's matchup in New Haven, Conn., Dartmouth looked to upset a formidable Bulldog squad that includes last year's Ivy Player of the Year, Yale senior Cat Dailey. With sharp kills and even sharper defense, Yale quickly built a 13-1 first-set lead that overshadowed the Big Green's comeback efforts. Outgunned on offense, Dartmouth was unable to maintain service possession long enough to establish momentum swings, as the Bulldogs ran away with the first frame 25-12. "Yale has a strong offense, and we knew what we had to do to contain them," co-captain Megan MacGregor '10 said.

Women's soccer takes key Ivy victory over Columbia

Cross-country competes at NCAA pre-nationals

Despite a strong showing by Chris Zablocki '10 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals this past weekend at Indiana State University, the Dartmouth men's cross-country team finished in the middle of the pack, placing 16th out of 35 teams. Coming off of a sixth-place finish at the Paul Short Invitational, the team was looking to improve even more at this meet. "I was very excited going into this invitational," coach Barry Harwick said.

Equestrian team bucks competition in back-to-back shows

Dartmouth's equestrian team competed in back-to-back events this weekend, overcoming both freezing snow conditions and unruly horses to finish second out of seven teams at Saturday's Dartmouth Show and third out of nine teams Sunday at Colby-Sawyer College. At the Dartmouth show, the Big Green trotted all over most of its competition, nabbing four first-place finishes and three second-place finishes. Coming up big for Dartmouth was co-captain Cristina Herren '12, who won the intermediate fences.
