HVHC receives grant for better patient care

Aki Onda / The Dartmouth Staff The High Value Health Care Collaborative received a $26 million grant on June 18 to focus on shared decision-making, a concept crucial to increasing patient satisfaction and reining in costs, according to HVHC Medical Director William Weeks. The collaborative, led by The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, focuses on the analysis and dissemination of the best practices in health care.

Hanover Inn to fully open in November

Maggie Rowland / The Dartmouth Staff After several delays, renovations at the Hanover Inn are still ongoing, with construction activity throughout the space above the former Gap store and in the Zahm addition, which is located between the Hanover Inn and the Hopkins Center, according to Amy Olson, senior media relations officer for the College.

College political groups anticipate election day

With just over four months until election day, the College Democrats and Republicans are working to advance their respective 2012 presidential candidates through collaboration with national campaigns, according to campus group representatives. The College Democrats have already held several open, informal events and will continue to campaign for President Barack Obama throughout the summer, according to the Obama campaign's New Hampshire spokeswoman Holly Shulman.

Reserves closed for renovations

Baker Library's basement Reserve Corridor closed for the summer on June 18 to make way for renovations to improve the viewing experience of the Orozco murals and enhance the configuration of the study space, according to Deputy Librarian Cyndy Pawlek.

April Thompson will leave College in July

|

Although the College has not made a formal announcement, Associate Dean of the College for Campus Life April Thompson will leave Dartmouth on July 6 after working 11 years in multiple departments to accept a position at Binghamton University, Thompson said.

Power outages during interim affect Hanover

|

The College experienced two significant power outages similar to those that occurred at the end of Spring term during the interim period on June 13 and June 15, according to Kenneth Packard, director of engineering and utilities. A fault in the underground utilities feed owned by National Grid, the energy company that is responsible for the transmission of Hanover's power, in front of the Circle K gas station on Main Street caused the outage on June 13, Packard said.
