Dennis named next Hanover Police chief

Law enforcement veteran Charlie Dennis will take over as Hanover Police Chief this June, filling the vacancy left by former chief Nicholas Giaccone’s retirement in October, town manager Julia Griffin announced in a release yesterday.

With new tactics, senior class gift campaign kicks off

Organizers of this year’s senior class gift aim to lessen socioeconomic pressure by de-emphasizing the goal of having all members of the Class of 2014 donate. The Class of 1964, which has pledged to match donations two-to-one, will donate three times the total amount raised if the Class of 2014 campaign can break $25,000 on its own. Last year, the Class of 2013 raised $24,785.

Mushingi becomes U.S. ambassador

Former College lecturer Tulinabo Mushingi has begun his role as the U.S. ambassador to Burkina Faso, making him the first African-born naturalized American to return to Africa as an ambassador. The appointment marks the culmination of Mushingi's lifelong diplomatic work, which began in the Peace Corps, where he served as a language and cultural trainer.

As the College remains under investigation by the Department of Education for Title IX violations, multiple universities have also received criticism for policies perceived to be too lenient on students found guilty of sexual misconduct. Yale University, which was fined for Clery Act violations and investigated for Title IX violations, received national criticism after six students found guilty of sexual misconduct were not expelled.

This spring, Dartmouth saw fewer early and regular decision applications and lower yield.

Greater security for major weekend

Over Winter Carnival weekend, Safety and Security and Dartmouth Emergency Medical Services will increase campus presence and patrol in anticipation of greater activity and potential hazards caused by the cold weather, Safety and Security director Harry Kinne and Dartmouth EMS executive director Nick Valentini '13 said.
