Crosby '09 competes in Miss N.H.

Brittany Crosby '09 -- who on Thursday recited slam poetry in Derry, N.H., as part of the 2009 Miss New Hampshire competition -- says she is not a "typical pageant girl." "I'm not a typical pageant girl in the sense that I haven't been doing this since I was three years old," Crosby said.

Beta holds 'Don't yell fag' Greek discussion

Greek organizations can do more to embrace the College's LGBTQA community, several students said at the annual "Don't Yell Fag from the Front Porch" discussion, which this year was held at Beta Alpha Omega fraternity on Thursday as a part of PRIDE week. "Don't Yell Fag from the Front Porch" was first held in 2000, after a member of Alpha Delta fraternity reportedly yelled "faggot" from the fraternity's porch at a gay student.



Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Joette Katz was part of the Law Week same-sex marriage discussion panel held on Thursday.

Baseball prepares to face Cornell in Ivy Championship

IAN BLUMENTHAL / The Dartmouth After clinching the Red Rolfe Division title last weekend, the Dartmouth baseball team prepares to face Cornell in a best-of-three series for the Ivy League Championship this weekend in Hanover. The Big Green (23-13, 16-4 Ivy) and the Big Red (16-21, 11-10 Ivy) will meet in two nine-inning games on Saturday, with the first game starting at 12 p.m.

PRIDE and Prejudice: The Queer History of Dartmouth

Shirley Hu / The Dartmouth Staff Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Allied issues have made headlines in the national papers repeatedly over the past year -- from continued protests over the passage of Proposition 8 in California to the New Hampshire Senate voting to legalize same-sex marriage this past Wednesday. At the College, where The Dartmouth's own headlines have trumpeted news of the third annual PRIDE Week this past week, this week's Mirror asks, 'How has being a part of the LGBTQA community at Dartmouth changed in the past few years, and where is the community headed in the coming years?' "I feel like Dartmouth has definitely changed and become more inclusive of LGBT students, but there is still a long way to go," Ray Rodriguez '09, one of the organizers of PRIDE Week, said. The letter A is sometimes added to the acronym LGBTQ to include "allies," or people who are not LGBTQ, but advocate for the fair treatment of those who are. "In my eyes, there's a huge difference in the LGBT people that have been here for four years, and the '12s that just came in.
